〚 EVENT 03 〛solstice & smoulder pt. 2
For what is it to die,
But to stand in the sun and melt into the wind? -- Kahlil Gibran
The days pass, and yet, the Sun does not move.
Thermometers continue their steady rise, the mercury inside dangerously close to breaking its molding. Animals lay dead and dying in the streets of the slums and the Inner City, their shriveling and rotting carcasses making the air thick with foul odors and disease most had hoped would be contained near the Wall. Most of Thalassia--save the rich and the rigid--mutter at the lack of power, both in their walls and in their hands.
And yet, the Sun does not move.
The citizens see fewer officers on the streets as the seemingly endless hours pass. The air is heavy and suffocating, but whispers still fly freely, talk of a death from the heat quickly making its way through the thoroughfares of the City, adding the fuel of paranoia to an already stifling fire. The flames only grow higher as the people come to realize their taps have run dry: one has to beg for the bare minimum to survive, and only if they can manage it before the stalls close. The voices of the underprivileged and the downtrodden begin to rise in anger. Heat begets heat.
And yet, the Sun does not move.
The robberies start as the military moves to the Wall. The prices become too high to stand and the lines too long to wait in: people take from stocked stores behind doors both wooden and steel. People lose their lives for and because of it. Tears are shed as easily as blood, drying before they can even hit the baking pavement.
And yet, the Sun does not move. It will not move. It cannot move.
Within a few hours, the stench of rotting food fills the air.
Waves of disgruntled citizens march towards the military district, chanting that the soldiers have been hoarding goods for themselves: At the first sign of a riot, men in uniform flood the streets and tear gas soon follows.
The people, in the desperation, offer prayers to the Lady for aid. But their prayers fall on deaf ears.
The Lady's heart does not move.
Welcome to part two of our third event. As you can see, the situation has worsened considerably:
Crime is on the rise and the government has only intervened with violence.
We ask that any and all new threads take these circumstances into consideration for the duration of the event.
