I'll keep these short because I just saw your post about being behind on ask prompts! Did her father's reliance on her to be happy after the death of her mother have any lasting effects on Mareesa? Why does Meeri feel uncomfortable or unsettled around humans in comparison to the granok, and how does she plan to make Nexus feel more like her former home Arboria?
Did her father’s reliance on her to be happy after the death of her mother have any lasting effects on Mareesa?Oh yeah, it definitely put a lot of pressure on her. Mareesa felt like she could never really show her true feelings or sadness over not having her Mother around, because she was now the only source of happiness for her father and his focus was on her a lot; so she had to hide her feelings from him about that. Also, she had to always stay strong for him and more or less be the adult and do a lot of the comforting, instead of being taken care of properly. Furthermore because of his alcoholism she had to clean up after him a fair bit and keep an eye out on him; once more making her grow up more and early than she should have.
Why does Meeri feel uncomfortable or unsettled around humans in comparison to the granok?Well, Meeri is not a progressive and worldy individual, even by regular Aurin standards. She is from a very small and isolated village in the jungle areas of Arboria. She had never left her region and her father did not allow her to travel with him to the cities when he went away on diplomatic duties for the Queen. Meeri had some interaction with those from neighboring villages, but that was it. The only time she saw outsiders was on the very rare occasions that her father brought other Aurin and very rarely humans to visit for work. Then, she always felt very uncomfortable and distrusting about the humans. She thought their ways of life and technologies were odd, and did not want these strange outsiders on her planet and with her people. She was afraid that they would change and hurt the Aurin. When the Dominion followed them to Arboria, she blamed the Exile Humans and thought it was all there fault. Meeri believes that human greed is what led to the ravaging, the greed of both Exile and Dominion humans. The Exiles greed manifesting in their need to “learn” and their constant returning to take from the Aurin people what didn’t belong to them. Then the Dominion greed to once again take what wasn’t there’s but on a much larger and destructive scale.
After being saved and taken off Arboria, she was only on the Gambler’s Ruin for one night before being put into cryo-sleep. She then remained in cryo-sleep for the entity of it’s travels to Nexus and was only woken up a few days before departing to the new planet. Therefore, she had very little time to adjust or become comfortable around these new Exiled species. Since being on Nexus she has grown more accustomed and open to humans from exposure. The humans that she’s found have been extremely kind and helpful to her, and has caused her to alter her views on them slightly. As for the Granok, Meeri has a very immature and silly Aurin based fascination with them. She finds them to be mystical and magical because of their organic make-up. She thinks they look like “the Earth grew into a person and decided to start walking around and talking”. Meeri is absolutely enthralled by their leaves and flowery hair adornments, and believes them to be very magical due to their appearances, physiology, her love of nature, and her connection to the Weave/Primal Life energy. How does she plan to make Nexus feel more like her former home Arboria? There are a few ways in which Meeri has planned, and is trying to make her home and life like that on Arboria. Firstly, she wants to find places on Nexus that remind her of her home and spend a lot of time in those areas. She also has tried to make her skyplot look more natural. Although she hasn’t quite found the trees that resemble the Wikren, she’s been satisfied with the development thus far with the help of Cadivus and Calean. Meeri was hoping that she could find some of her friends from Arboria alive on Nexus, but has thus far been unsuccesful and believes most of them to be dead.
She also has been trying to find connections to mirror and more or less replace those she’s lost on Aboria. Finding her half-brother has been really essential in her rehabilitation. Although they were not close and her father only brought him to the jungle village when Meeri was a baby, because of Meeri’s attachment and relationship with her deceased brother on Arbroia; it’s been wonderful having her have another figure in her life like that. She has been on a hunt for a wise, strong, and gifted Matria to teach her and also serve as a Mother figure; so she can try and pick up where her Mother left off in her lessons as well as gain that guidance that she still needs. This has thus far been unsuccessful. The Matria’s Meeri has met do not posses the same type of skills from her mother that have been prominent in the Wikrenroot clan, or do not carry the same grace or nurturing nature. Meeri has since split up her search into looking for different Aurin women to serve as different aspects of those thing, instead of trying to find it all in one Aurin.
Because of Meeri’s inability to find someone to teach her like her Mother has, she has recently been trying to self-teach herself the ways of the Weave and ancient Aurin teachings, as well as trying to experiment with other aspects of the Weave in Primal Life Energy.
Meeri will continue on this path as she tries to re-gain what she has lost and grow beyond it.
