I thought the passage the other day (yesterday?) about how a vow is an altar and completion of it is a sacrifice was very poetic, but it turns out at least Rabbi Natan thinks NONE OF THAT is a good thing. I hate to suggest that the halakhic authorities might have gotten a fee for annulling vows, but....
