The Turret is one of the very first chapter books I remember receiving as a gift as a little boy. I'm not sure if that was before or after The Rescuers (1977) was released, but Margery Sharp (1905-1991) was a genius -- and so was Garth Williams, one of the most recognizable illustrators of his day.
