Here's the thing: Toni couldn't do the "timeless" gimmick forever. As much as I adored it and am eternally grateful we got to experience it, it's not sustainable. It was never meant to be a "permanent" persona. It was needed to tell a story and that's what she did. Hell even Margo Channing realized she needed to let go of some of her dramatics to have a balanced, happy life.
So now we have Toni going "back to her roots" and coming full circle. I see this as a metaphor for finding herself once more. Not only that, she's reclaiming what Mariah sullied. And now she will show Mariah and everyone else what the real Toni Storm is capable of.
But I say a loving and boozy farewell to Timeless Toni Storm. May your labia heal and your retirement be filled with orgies.
