Invisible Songs
I love how this turned out.
Here’s the prompt, thanks to @mari13606:
Someone who appears to be deaf/hard of hearing (signs, doesn’t react to many noises if at all, hates it when smth doesn’t have cc, etc.) But it turns out, they can only hear the music of other people, like an aura except instead of it being color it’s sound. Each persons is a unique song/sound w/e and can divulge info as simple as mood or complex as personality.

A year ago, my world went silent. The doctors told me the particulars, which of several genetic disorders was to blame, but I had enough shouting elders in my family tree that it wasn’t a surprise. Twelve months since I’ve heard a human voice, and I only spent one in rage and despair. Family had shown me what to expect.
But nobody said anything about the music.
Eleven months ago, I heard a soaring aria, faint and tinny but real. I stood up in my living room, rotating in place, trying to find the source. A shadow at the window told me that someone had probably rung the doorbell. But my doorbell didn’t sound like that.
I yanked open the door in time to see a delivery person heading back to her truck. She gave me a wave, her steps jaunty and her attention elsewhere. I was too dumbstruck to wave back. As she got into the truck and zoomed away, the music faded. I stepped forward to follow, and stumbled against a package.
Everything was quiet again. The package was nothing; some light bulbs and soap I’d ordered online. My thoughts whirling, I took it inside and spent a frustrating afternoon trying to find things that I could hear.
Since I worked from home, sending many an email about web development and rarely seeing people face-to-face, it was a while before I heard the music again. This time I had gone out to empty the trash, and as I lowered the lid with its usual silence, a burst of death metal made me jump.

A Name
It was an accident. A scroll through the usual sites brought to a halt by a single name. A fae name. Someone begging for help, having bartered for the wrong thing, somehow gaining the name instead. It becomes branded in my mind as I stare at it. With a click, I close the page, the computer, and dash out of the library. I tuck all my electronics to the bottom of my bag quickly as panic sets in. Sparks of magic dance invisible in the air around me at my high emotions. I wouldn't be able to help in time. They would be dead before I could finish gathering the supplies. But I refused to let anyone touch me or mine, and that included the creature coming for me tonight.
At the silver signal of the moonlight, I slip outside. The moon is bright, though not yet full. Leaves dance across the concrete next to the pool, partners to the wind playing with my short hair. Noting the time, I sit in the moonlight, dipping my feet into the water. It's still warm from the sun, the bite of autumn not yet strong enough to nip at the warm temperatures. I'm not left waiting long.
since everything’s a little weird right now & most seem to be bored I thought we could play a quarantine game 💘 answer the following! 1. how has your day been? 2. what is the last thing that made you smile? 3. what’s keeping you entertained these days? 4. if you are in some kind of quarantine/self isolation: is there anything you’d like to achieve in this time? 5. post a selfie! (if your comfortable with that) 6. last but not least send this to some mutuals to keep the game going 🥰
omg this seems so cool!!!
1. my day has sadly been spent doing class work lol i stayed up last night doing accounting and spent most of my day on a paper :/ (if only online courses paused like the world did right now lol)
2. the last thing that made me smile was this video i’m watching for this fashion course i’m taking to help me get a better grasp on fashion for fics!! it’s so interesting to learn more about the fashion world and how fashion really isn’t based on clothing but change and i really think it’ll help me get a better view on marinette when i write!
3. no one laugh but i’ve been getting back into anime and 👉👈 it do be entertaining... also i have this huge obsession with any film keira knightley’s in so i’ve been working through all her period pieces (anna karenina is next on my list as soon as i watch the 2020 version of emma that recently came out) and i shit y’all not those movies are the only things that help me write sometimes
4. i’m really hoping to 1) finish all my fics for zines 2) finish clockwork ch 3 and 3) not lose my mind the more i rot away in my room <3
5. i’m shy but okay 🙈
6. hmm let’s see i’ll tag @heizerux @inkshila @chatalyst @chataclysmes and @bevvydraws!
