Despite the fact that it was probably in the neighborhood of half past ten, there was the occasional flash of fireworks from all over, some just peeking behind the trees and houses while others climbed high into the sky, setting it aglow with blues and reds and pinks and yellows. They entranced him, drew him out onto the lawn, and found him sitting on the ground as he stared up at the sky. He wasn’t sure how long he sat there, only that he felt perfectly content. 

And then he caught a glimpse of something-- or rather, someone-- as another flash lit up the sky, catching the vibrant red locks of one Marianne Byrne. “Mari!” he called out to her, patting the ground beside him. “The fireworks. You should come watch. They’re sparkly like your hair.”
