This place was highly recommended by an Austrian friend so despite it being out of Salzburg city proper, we took the short taxi ride up the mountain to take in the “austrian-ness” of it all. The location was beautiful with a sweeping view of the city. Unfortunately it was raining the entire time so we could not fully appreciate the outdoors, so we had to fully enjoy the indoor décor.
The food offerings were all excellent. I started with the matjes (pickled fish fillets) served with a salad, boiled potatoes and a yogurt cream sauce. The house made bratwurst are not to be missed. They are so light that they almost float above the plate and reminded me a bit of some bavarian Weisswurst I’ve had in past. They bratwurst are served with boiled potatoes and a side of sauerkraut. My nephew couldn’t get enough schnitzel so went for that. They offered a dessert called a Salzburger Nockerl, which is basically a sweet soufflé. I’m glad we tried it but perhaps it’s a delight best left to have only there in Salzburg.
