Stay safe
[ TEXT ]: I want you to stay at home with Maria Elena today. I’m sending round security.
There was no loving sentiment to Adelita’s text message. She was about to lose signal, and while she had sent her number two, Matias, to Mars’ address to keep an eye on him and Maria Elena. Though Matias had tried to argue with his High Priestess, he must have caught onto something no one else had, and so he left her side at the faire to keep guard, as ordered.
Adelita ran a hand through her knotted hair, and was about to put her mobile away when she suddenly sent another text.
[ TEXT ]: If you don’t see me again, please tell my family about our baguette, they will help you and love her. And thank you for everything.

Where: Descry, Mars’ place
When: Late evening
It wasn’t so late in the evening, but the sky was black, and clouds blocked most stars from sight, leaving the area of Descry looking darker than usual. Being the type of neighbourhood that it was, that could have made it feel more ominous, even with street lamps, but Adelita was a witch, a powerful one at that and rarely afraid of anything. That was except, not including social humiliation; something she was risking by climbing the fire escape to Mars’ apartment. However, despite her many strengths, Adelita did have one secret, hidden weakness; a little pan leche called Maria Elena.
The almost forty year old woman had come straight from work, and had sent her security staff home – even Matius – despite their misgivings. She had driven straight home so she could pick up one of her cousins ancient old sedan and make the drive to Descry. Despite the time of night she had opted for her largest pair of Dior sunglasses, and hidden her wild, dark hair beneath a vintage, dark Hermes scarf. Honestly, standing at five foot nine and presenting a rather slender, willowy frame, she cut a very distinctive figure, but she had swiped a charmed bracelet that made her difficult to focus on. She was not invisible, but her presence did encourage the untrained eye to look elsewhere.
The Priestess parked several streets over from Mars’s home, and was conscious of the constant clicking of her louis Vuitton heals on the pavement floor, but she hurried as best as she could to the familiar fire escape. Had she been as proud as people perceived her, she might have been irritated at climbing such a rickety fire exit, but she cared not a whit as she clambered up up to the forth floor, her heal only slipping through the cracks a couple of times.
“Ah!” Adelita exhaled as she reached Mars’s window, not waiting for him to stir on the sofa, instead just pushing the window up with only a small grunt. The Priestess clambered through the window looking more like a teenage girl in costume, rather than a middle-aged Priestess. “Mi pan leche estrella!” Adelita did not greet the half-naked man whose chest the three month old lay on. Instead, she swept into the living space, and very carefully lifted her Marie Elena off of his chest. “How have you been chicita?” she crooned, positioning the baby so that her head could rest of Adelita’s chest beneath her neck.
Adelita pushed the shades on top of her head and shook her head so the scarf could fall down about her shoulders, exposing the dark, thick curls that were ever so slightly tinged with silver streaks.
“Aawh you’re so warm mi Angelita! Why is she still awake?” The question was directed at Mars, though Adelita’s warm chocolate brown eyes were absorbed on the little brioche bun in her arms. Marie Elena smiled blearily up at her mother, a tiny little hand of course instantly tangling itself in Adelita’s curls. “Why are you still awake, my little naughty night owl?!”
All this come to an end

Location: Outskirt of town
Time: Midday
Today was the day that Adelita was finally going to do what she should have done the day she had given birth to her daughter. She was cutting ties. Emotional, physical, though not fiscal, or entirely. Just ... emotionally. You see, Maria-Elena was Adelita’s first and only child. To Adelita’s knowledge Maria-Elena would be the first Flores descendent not to inherit the title of Priestess/Priest when the time came that her mother passed on. Not just because Adelita was finally giving her up for good, but also because Adelita was the first Priestess to insist the next in line should be chosen based on merit instead of blood.
As one of the few Priestesses/Priests in Helka’s Own history that had taken on the role out of necessity, Adelita had no idea of the biological pull that Maria-Elena might experience as an adult, should she become a witch. Despite the hours and days and months that Adelita had spent trawling the town’s coven’s private library, as well as the towns, she still had no idea if the pull to greatness was even a real thing or just a notion perpetuated by archaic and narcissistic beliefs held by previous Priests and Priestesses.
As such, Adelita would need to keep an eye. From afar. For the good of her coven, for the good of her reputation... and ultimately, for the good of Maria-Elena. This all being said, she was terminating the current situation, whereby she visited regularly and played part time mother. It would in time do more damage, and honestly... it was a distraction Adelita could not afford.
As such, she currently stood leaning against one of the huge black vehicles she was usually driven about in, dressed in a thick, long designer white trench coat, matching healed boots designed for torture instead of walking, with a pair of Dolce shades covering her tear stained red eyes. To her chest, she held a long slender white envelope. The weather was near freezing, and the thick dark, greying curls flowing about her did not help keep the goose bumps from dotting the back of her neck. Still, despite the cold, the High Priestess stood tall, waiting patiently for the father of her child to arrive.
