So I REALLY liked what the BBC 2018 Woman in White did with Count and Madame Fosco, character-wise, but ...

LET HIM BE FAT, YOU BASTARDS

There's SUPPOSED to be a mildly incestuous, definitely adulterous, but kinda compelling unspoken attraction between fat-but-v.-sexy Fosco and ugly-but-nonetheless-appealing Marian. Their physical (and loudly expressed emotional) nonconformity to the English standards of their gender presentations is supposed to make you kinda root for them to be allies until Fosco crosses the moral event horizon!

The 2018 miniseries also went with "Marian is consistently described as 'ugly' because Marian is not actually a woman per se, and that's how people are glossing 'I am confused by the dude vibes I'm getting from this person' in 1859," and I loved that -- but they chickened out on giving us a Really Sexy Fat Man, and I am shaking my head at them.

Reading Dracula fanfiction from the 2000s is a wild ride sometimes. Vlad III hangs out with Tod from Elisabeth. Seward cucks Henry Wotton and Arthur marries Marian Halcombe. Dracula and Lucy split the Crew between their respective harems. There is a retelling from Dracula POV written by a fourteen year old that is miles better than The Dracula Tape by Fred Saberhagen, the published book with a similar premise. Erik and Christine are also here somehow (and both are vampires, of course).
