Happy New Year’s Eve, y’all!

So, I wanted to make something with Mr. Puzzles and Marie for New Year’s and I had a vague idea for a scene I wanted to have between them, but I did not have the time nor the energy to put into making something like a full on “comic” or even a single drawing of the scene (as much as I really really really really really wanted to 😭💔)

So, I thought, “Hey, why not just put it in writing instead? Try my hand at it?” And as soon as I did, I realized I’m not good with trying to describe a character’s emotions through inner monologues or poetic language such as literally anyone with more writing experience and knowledge than me! I envy all you fanfic writers out there. Affectionately, of course <3 But, I still wanted to write it out and post it in time for New Year’s Eve, at least. So guess what?! Y’all are getting it in screenplay format where there’s no fluttery language and it’s literally just describing what is happening in the scene because it was the only way I could get it done without absolutely HATING MYSELF FOR IT!!!

Ahem, there’s also some Marie lore crumbs if any of y’all are interested in that. Prolly not, but they’re there anyways. So, without further adieu…

"Seeing dragons around her house wasn't uncommon. In fact, it was the most normal part of Marie's every day routine. It was more uncommon to NOT see a dragon around her place, except at night when most of them are asleep. It's one of the things Marie enjoyed most about her location: Getting to see all the different dragons just hanging out or flying by her place.

However, though it was extremely rare, there is one dragon in particular that Marie hoped she would never have to see fly by her place in person. One whose very existence alone causes her dread..."

I've had this idea for some sweet Marie lore for a month or two now and I'm so glad I finally buckled down and finished it. HOLY CRAP! When I first came up with it, I couldn't decide whether I wanted it to be an animatic or a written script thing. In the end, due to certain aspects of it, I decided to make it an animatic. Next time I have a short idea, though, I'ma do script format instead cuz that'll prolly be easier for me while working on other things😅.

Y'all can prolly guess which dragon this is about, but in case you can't, the mug design will give you a clue. Speaking of, shoutout to @hplonesomeart for the mug design. It was in their Christmas post to me and so I decided to include it because 1) It adds some emotional weight to the scene and 2) It's very special to me.

Anyway, off to procrastinate on all my other projects as soon as this post goes up! :D I'm gonna make more Mr. Puzzles stuff soon, I promise.

In case you guys were curious, (you prolly weren’t but I’m dropping this anyway) there’s a reason Marie hasn’t shapeshifted into any dragons from the Strike class, specifically. She can shapeshift into them. She just doesn’t.

“Why not?” You ask? You’ll just have to wait and see.

Sorry if this would include spoilers for Marie's backstory, I just wanted to ask this as it popped into my head:

Is Marie uncomfortable around Strike Class dragons or is she just uncomfortable turning into them? Because it would really suck to have to alienate yourself from an entire class just to feel comfortable, especially if your a dragon enthusiast.

That is a VERY good question. I’m still working out the kinks for it, but here’s a quick little snippet of lore without giving too much away. When Marie was very young and she was still learning to control her powers, her ambitions got the better of her and…well…the rest I can’t spoil yet >u0

It’s more so that she’s uncomfortable shifting into Strike Class dragons. She still loves them, but they unfortunately also trigger her when she’s really stressed out because of that event.

(Also, don’t worry, I do plan on drawing Strike class dragons eventually. I’m just trying to get things figured out first.)

Do you got ref sheet for your sonas Dragon from?

Not really, no 😅. The thing is, Marie doesn’t have one single form. She can turn into ANY dragon from the How To Train Your Dragon franchise except the books and games. She could be a Gronkle one minute then a Hideous Zippleback the next. Sorry about that. If it helps, you can go to the How To Train Your Dragon wiki and look through the dragon species section. They usually got images of them from the shows and movies that you can take reference from.

Also, in case you didn’t know or didn’t see the post I made (link), Marie doesn’t shapeshift into any dragons in the Strike class. (She can, but she chooses not to). It’ll say what dragons belong in which class in their wikis.

I JUST REMEMBERED GRIMORAS EXISTED IN HTTYD. In specifically an episode of Race to the Edge. All I remember is that they are little parasite dragons that live in fresh water, attach themselves to other dragons and cause them to go into a rage, and flee if they see or touch salt.

Has Marie had any run-ins with these parasitic dragons? Does she know they exist at all?

Oh yeah. She knows about those little demons. She doesn’t remember them ever attaching to her in dragon form from her teen years to adulthood. (Who knows. Maybe they’re part of the lore? 👀)

Anyway, she has checked the places in the area she lives in that have bodies of fresh water to make sure they don’t have Grimoras so if she ever needs a drink while in dragon form, she knows where to go. If she’s somewhere she’s never been before, she ain’t gonna risk going into fresh water as a dragon, even if Grimoras are rare. She knows what they can do to dragons, after all…
