Yes! I can manage, thank you! / Virginia Ironside
Marie Sharp #3
'But Marie, we're old friends,' he said, obviously mortally offended that he hadn't been the first to know. I do wish that when I told people they didn't always think of the news in terms of them rather than me. Sometimes I wish I hadn't told anyone. Other times I wish I'd put an ad in the paper so that everyone knew at the same time. Or perhaps Facebook would be a better means of communicating such news. Not sure you're allowed to post stuff about lumps on Facebook, actually. People would be hard-pressed to 'like' a picture of a cancerous (or not) lump, though I'm sure there'd be a few mindless 'friends' who would. I've never seen anything on the blasted website that wasn't full of jollity, smiley faces and the word 'Like!' 'Like!' 'Like!' everywhere. I wish you could click on something that said, 'Hmm. Not sure about this.' 'I'm sorry,' I said, not sorry at all. (Not only do I have a lump but I have to apologize for not telling people about it. Bats.) 'I didn't want to worry you.'
