Études Françaises - Introducing Yourself
Bonjour, today I’m going to be listing useful phrases for introducing yourself with!
Name:
Je m'appelle... - my name is...
Moi, c’est... - my name is... (for more informal situations)
Tu t’appelles comment? - what is your name? (informal)
Vous vous appelez comment? - what is your name? (formal)
Where You’re From:
Okay, so, I could spend all day listing the names of countries and nationalities but I want to keep this post short and clear so I highly recommend you look up the name of your country and your nationality (+ their genders). You can easily find them in any French dictionary or online!
Now here are some phrases:
Je suis + nationality - I am..
Je suis de... - I am from
Je viens de... - I come from...
Je suis originaire de... - I come from
J’habite à... - I live in...
Je suis né(e) en/au... - I was born in
Tu viens d’où? - Where are you from?
Tu habites où? - Where do you live?
note: if you are talking about a feminine country, use “en” and if you are talking about a masculine country, use “au.” Plural countries such as Les États-Unis use “aux”
Saying Your Age:
Note: Make sure you practice those French numbers! I know they turn weird after like 70 and you might wanna bang your head on the table but don’t! Practice them!
J’ai + number + ans - I am ... years old (I have ... years)
Tu as quel âge? - How old are you? (informal)
Vous avez quel âge? - How old are you? (formal)
Example Introduction:
Bonjour, je m’appelle Marie et j’ai dix-huit ans! Je suis anglaise et j’habite à Sheffield.
Et toi? Tu t’appelles comment et tu as quel âge?
I hope this lesson was useful! If you wanna practice feel free to leave me a lil introduction. Au revoir!
