#MarieKnight, best remembered as musical (and perhaps romantic) partners with Sister #RosettaTharpe, was born on this day in 1920. Together, Tharpe & Knight ignited new possibilities in gospel music, taking it beyond the church into secular entertainment. Their endeavors were instrumental in building the foundation of both rock 'n' roll AND soul music. . Though her recorded duets with Rosetta are her most famous, Marie actually had an extensive solo career in gospel as well as soul music. . Why is she depicted here within an apple?
