I’m starting to prioritize drinking my older wines during this crazy time. This 2013 Marimar “La Masía” Pinot Noir from Russian River was beautiful. Aromatically it was very potent - raspberry and cherry, forest floor, spice, a hint of anis. I didn’t get any oxidative aroma. On the palate - great texture, classic Russian River flavor. Very balanced wine, elegant. My husband poured it for me blind and I could tell it had some age but it didn’t seem old - if you know what I mean. Have you had wine from Marimar Estate in Sonoma County? Marimar Torres is part of the Torres wine family in Spain but several decades ago came to California and started making wine. This 2010 Syrah/Tempranillo blend might be the best wine I’ve had this year. I don’t think they make this blend anymore but - wow! At almost a decade old it showed not even a hint of age. It was just beautiful. I have never had this blend before and it was so smooth and silky. The fruit was still alive along with earthiness and acidity and spice. I wish I had another one to open in 5 more years and see how it’s holding up. ————————————————- The other wine we enjoyed was also a 2010 - this one a skin-contact wine from Roxanich winery in Croatia. It was a hit among our guests - an amazing current vintage wine that has aged in barrel for 6 years.
