Memorial for the 6 textile workers who were shot and killed on October 1, 1929 while picketing Marion Manufacturing Company in Marion, North Carolina.

The four men were Sam Vickers, Randolph Hall, Luther Bryson, and George Jonas. Two additional workers, James Roberts and T. L. Carver, died later of their wounds. The law enforcement officers were charged with murder but would later be acquitted in court.

This memorial is located off of Baldwin Ave in Marion, North Carolina in front of the old mill.

This is not the Seaboard Coast Line, but the former Clinchfield Railroad, at Marion, North Carolina. I was lost trying to identify this spot, so asked Jim Wrinn, Editor of Trains Magazine. After giving me the locale, he went on...

The train is southbound No. 92, which often had SCL power as it kept going after Spartanburg, South Carolina...[the photographer is] standing on the Southern Railway Spencer-Asheville line bridge.

This is now Hwy 80 (Buck Creek Road) beside of Lake Tahoma in McDowell County, North Carolina.

The Lake Tahoma Casino (a pavilion on the water) can be seen in both pictures through the trees on the right.

Dots Dario in the Pleasant Gardens community in McDowell County, North Carolina. Since 1970, Dot’s Dairio has been a favorite destination. Since then, generations of loyal customers haven’t missed getting an ice cream cone, a milkshake, a sundae or a banana split at Dot’s Dairio.

Located at the intersection of U.S. 70 West and Lake Tahoma Road (or N.C. 80), Dot’s Dairio is instantly recognizable with its familiar big ice cream cone and sign. Charlie McMahan started the business in 1970 with just a single-wide trailer and two windows for orders. He named the ice cream business after his wife Dottie and then put her name on the iconic sign.

The beautiful staircase inside of the Blanton House Restaurant & Venue at 239 South Main Street in Marion in McDowell County, North Carolina.

The house was built in 1915.

Blanton House Restaurant & Venue features a Charleston style restaurant, beautiful courtyards and fountains, outdoor entertainment, and a large venue.

This beautiful old home is located next to the post office. It was built in 1915. Albert Blanton (1874-1917) commissioned Asheville architect Richard Sharp Smith to design this impressive home.

In later years, the building housed businesses, including the Max Hensley Photography Studio, Bridal Showcase and Tax 2000.
