There is beauty in decay. Marisa Scheinfeld’s photographs of the Borscht Belt emphasize quiet and solitude. Her photographs, which show the abandoned remnants of Borscht Belt life, subtly contrast what was once a boisterous past with the present remains. One looks at her photographs imagining what was once there, seeing emptiness instead. However despite the decomposing, worn down subject matter, Scheinfeld captures scenes that are filled with light, with an echoing energy. She turns the observations of decay into a luminous elegy, a transcendent study of contemplation.
