WARNINGS: None
Brittany plopped Marley in the chair she'd moved to her bathroom, first. She was really happy with how amazing the lighting in her bathroom was. All of her make-ups were organized and laid out on her bathroom vanity, which was surprising, considering Brittany's normally chaotic and spazzy nature. But when it came to the things she spent a whole lot of money on, and the things that made her even hotter than she already was, she knew how to take care of them. Just like she took care of her Tubbs. And her Submarine back home. All of her babies. "Okay. So I've broken them up into natural daytime looks, sexy and mysterious nighttime looks and a little bit that's about halfway in between." she'd start standing aside and tapping her chin. She glanced back and forth between her arsenal and her pretty friend, realizing very quickly that they really wouldn't need much make-up. It was the hair that would take her the longest since the girl had so much of it. "I say we go natural on the face, but a bit heavier on the eyes to make those gorgeous things pop!" FINALLY she looked over to guage her friend's state and opinion, only to see her favorite owl-eye'd look. Gosh this girl was cute. Too bad Sam snatched her up first.
Marley let out a little 'oof' as Brittany pushed her down into the chair in the bathroom, her expression already wide-eyed and overwhelmed. Who knew there could possibly be so much makeup in the world?! Much less owned by one girl! Eyes scanning over the array of options, she bit her lip. She wasn't sure what she was in store for. But she trusted Brittany. Sure, Brittany was a little... different from most anyone else, but she was one of the sweetest girls. Plus, it helped that Marley always admired the way she did her makeup and hair. So, she trusted her. Even if it was a little scary to do so. "Umm, that sounds good" Marley looked up with a smile and met Brittany's gaze in the mirror. "I only every use mascara and chapstick, personally, so this is all new to me." This whole dating thing was new to her, after all. Marley had never been on a date before, having never been asked out by anyone in the past. Needless to say, her stomach was in knots and her mind was a jumble. She was still trying to get all the advice Brittany had given her last night straight. "So, what was that thing about making him laugh again?" she asked, her teeth digging deeper into her lower lip.
Brittany immediately got to work, looking over her hoard and picking little pieces, brushes, and pencils out of each little bag. "Yes. Don't make him do all the work. Show him you've got a personality, too! Yes, he should be wooing you, but it never hurts to show you're your own woman, y'know?" she said, all as she still gathered the necessary tools to do her work. Before getting started, she finally paused and looked to her friend, a small smile gracing her face. "You're so pretty, Marls. You should be highlighting your eyes, more." Nodding, she handed her a headband "Here. This'll keep your hair out of the way while we do your face. Then we'll do your hair" and moved up to be almost straddling the girl, on leg on each side of the chair she was sitting on for a better vantage point. "Ready?" She was already holding a concealer stick and face sponge, ready to get to work.
Marley nodded along as Brittany spoke, storing the information in the back of her mind for later. There seemed to be a lot to this dating thing. Too many things to think about and too many rules to follow. She wasn't sure if she would like it. But who knew what would happen later that night. "Got it. I mean, at least I know I can talk to him fairly easily, so that shouldn't be too hard, right?" Licking her lips, she looked back up at Brittany at the compliment, her cheeks immediately flushing. She still wasn't used to hearing such sweet things. And being here at Disney, she heard them on a nearly daily basis. Granted, compliments were mostly when she was in her costume, but still. "Thank you. I would... but I don't know how, to be honest. The makeup team at work always does my makeup, and when I'm by myself I only use mascara, really." Nodding, she pulled her hair back into a ponytail and placed the headband on to keep any stray hairs away. Then, she closed her eyes. "Go ahead" she said with another nod.
Brittany shook her head sweetly at the girl, "Looks like we won't have to use blush," she teased at the girl's flushed cheeks It didn't take much to make her do that. Giggling a little, she started dabbing away at her face immediately. Doing make-up on someone else was so different than doing your own. Easier, cuz you could see everything and didn't have to close any of your eyes! "The real thing to remember is to be yourself. Don't try too hard to impress him or it'll make things harder as things go. Sammy's super funny and totally oblivious. He won't be difficult to be around. Just maybe awkward at first." Within minutes, she was done with the entire face mask. Now onto eyes, so she could add the rest of the contour and sealer. "Don't let him do all the talking. And I'm not saying not to talk about books. Passion is sexy. But don't get stuck there, y'know?" After getting the primer and eyeshadow on, she took a few steps back to look at it from far away before continuing.
Marley blushed deeper at Brittany's comment. She knew she blushed easily; it was kind of an insecurity of hers. It was hard to hide her feelings when her face give them away so easily, something she really needed to work on controlling. Keeping her eyes closed as Brittany worked, she bit her lip. "Right. Be myself." But was it really herself to get all dressed up like this? And with all the rules of dating, how was it possible to be herself? "I'll try to stay away from books as a topic. I don't want to bore him..." Rambling on about books was probably Marley's favorite thing, even though she could tell it annoyed some of her friends sometimes. She just couldn't help but to want to discuss the plot points and meanings behind a good book! Especially if she had just read it prior to talking to someone. It was almost if she was bursting with the desire to discuss. Which is why it was probably a good thing she had been busy the last twenty four hours and hadn't had a chance to read her newest book. "What if we run out of things to talk about?" she asked, her voice becoming smaller, worried.
Brittany came closer again, steadying herself to carefully work on a thin amount of eyeliner. This part was the hardest for her because she always did have a hard time coloring inside the lines. Her tongue between her teeth in concentration, "No. Don't completely avoid books. You are your love of books. Just be sure to pay attention to him, too. If he looks like he'd like to talk or if he's stopped smiling, then you've been talking too long. Really, you'll never know if he likes you, if you don't show him you." A lot of people assumed Brittany was stupid because she saw the world so differently and didn't like big words. But she actually had some of the best advice. Especially because she didn't have the hardships that made people so guarded, to ruin her perspective. "A little make up, some curls, and a new dress isn't gonna take away from who you are, Marls. And if he doesn't like you for you--crazy and all--then he doesn't deserve you." Once both eyes looked about even, she stood back again to check from different angles. "Just know, it's his first date with you, too. It's about him, too. And I'm sure he's nervous, too. I mean, LOOK AT YOU!" she'd gesture to her, as if to say she was a bombshell. "Have fun with it. Worst case scenario, you don't go out again." she shrugged, then came up close again. "Okay, open your eyes. Time for bottom liner and mascara."
Marley smiled softly as Brittany continued to work on her. It was nice that Brittany at least got why she loved books as much as she did. "Okay, just make sure he doesn't get too bored. Right." Adding that to her mental checklist, she was about to nod when she realized Brittany's hand was right by her eye. Oops, didn't want to mess her up. "You really have a lot of good advice, Britt. Thank you for everything. And helping out with all of this." She didn't know what she would do without the girl. Sure, she could've asked one of the other girls for help, even her roommate, but they all seemed to be flirting with Sam and she didn't want to get them upset that she was going on a date with him. Plus, Brittany was a great friend, and a lot smarter than a lot of people gave her credit for. She was definitely the best option. Opening her eyes when told, Marley got a glimpse of herself in the mirror. "Oh Britt, I already look so much better, thank you!"
Brittany nodded, "I know." then shrugged. Sometimes her confidence was on point, and sometimes she needed to remind herself. But this wasn't one of those moments. "You're welcome. Don't mention it. The sleepover was thanks enough." Smiling sweetly, she started twisting the eyeliner pencil. But what Marley said had caught her attention and she pursed her lips. "Oh, honey. Don't ever say 'better' like that. You're always beautiful. It's 'different' and 'dramatic' but never 'better.'" As she came up to start working very carefully under her eyes to add a bit of an enhancement, she talked a bit more quietly. "I'm not fixing you. I'm just highlighting what's already there." Now when she smiled, she looked right into Marley's eyes for a moment, then put her focus back before she poked the girls eye out. Once done there, she grabbed for her mascara and pumped it a few times.
Marley giggled. "But I love sleepovers with you! It's not like it's a payment of any sort!" Eyes widening slightly as Brittany gently chided her for her insecurities, Marley bit her bottom lip once more. It was sometimes really hard to believe that she was beautiful, especially with the way she grew up; constantly teased and mocked, and with hardly any friends. But when Brittany said it, part of Marley believed it. She nodded slowly and smiled softly. "Thank you, Brittany. You're the sweetest" she said, sincerity clear in her voice. She shifted in her seat just as Brittany started to come towards her with the eyeliner, and looked up towards the ceiling like the ladies in the make-up room always made her do at work.
Brittany loved how easy of a client Marley was. It was like having a giant barbie! She couldn't wait to dress her. "Okay, look down, but don't close your eyes," she swiped the mascara brush once over the front of Marley's lashes, then curled if around and through the top of them, to avoid clumping and to get the right shape. After doing both eyes to satisfaction, she stood up completely straight and smiled. "Almost done! Now keep your eyes open, try not to blink too hard and I'll do the seal." Which was the easiest part. Just to keep the makeup from sweating off and to keep her eyeshadow from running into creases. Only seconds later, she tossed her sponge down and clapped her hands together as if to clean them off. "Voila!" Gesturing to the mirror so Marley could look, she raised and eyebrow, "And remember, not 'better.'"
Marley did as she was told, being the perfect canvas for Brittany's work. Once she felt the sponge move away from her face for the last time, she slowly turned her gaze to the mirror. "Oh wow, Britt!" She loved everything Brittany had done. It was a bit more dramatic than the makeup she wore for work, and definitely more than anything she had ever done on her own, but it was still subtle enough, with just a bit more emphasis on the eyes. "Thank you!" Smiling at the other girl, Marley wrapped her arms around her to pull her into a hug. "What were you planning on doing with my hair?"
Brittany squeezed back, "Awwwww yeeaaaahhhhh. If something this simple gets me Marley hugs, I can't wait until I dress you." she giggled. Squeezing one more time, she reached around to turn the chair, this time gesturing for the brunette to face the entrance of the bathroom and stare into her bedroom so she had full access. "I figured we'd give it some curl. It's so long, it'll be pretty, and I wanna test this new hairspray I got." As she spoke, she moved her make up to the side and pulled her curling iron closer, hovering her hand over it to see if it had heated up while they were doing make up. She was careful not to get too close, since she'd burnt herself way too many times to wanna do that again. And she wasn't gonna make Marley sit in the bathtub. "Then we'll pull back the sides and do half up. So we can keep it out of your pretty face and show off your earrings." She had a picture in her head of what it looked like, and was already pulling the girls hair into sections. "YOU HAVE SO MUCH HAIR!" Exclaiming, she shook her head with a smile. This was gonna be fun.
Marley giggled as she released Brittany. The girl was too sweet, and always made her feel like a million bucks. Definitely a great friend to have around. Turning as directed, she nodded as Brittany explained her plans for her hair. "That sounds really pretty, Britt!" she exclaimed, looking over her shoulder for a moment to shoot the girl a grin, before turning back around so she could get to work. "I know. It always takes me forever to curl it myself, that's why I don't bother all that often when I'm not at work." Her hair, at least, Marley knew what to do with. She typically would wear it in loose waves if she was going out, or it's natural straightness if it was just a normal day. But Brittany's updo sounded extravagant, and she was excited to see how it turned out.
Brittany got to work, easily gliding through all the steps. Make-up, she was okay at. She just needed to concentrate real hard and it took her a while. But hair? Especially curls? She was a beast. It was probably her favorite thing about herself, other than her sparkling blue eyes, so she always kept it nice. Her fingers and hands worked meticulously, but quickly, as she opted to tell Marley about her first date. In her usual, bubbly and over exaggerated terms, often doing voices and breaking off into side stories when she got distracted. But she managed to stay mostly on track in the end. She was in 4th grade and their dads were having dinner two tables over. The guy wore a little suit and she wore a pretty dress and they shared cheese fries and a milkshake. Sometimes, she explained it like he was her first love, but really, she just liked when boys called her pretty. It didn't en well because he spilled the milkshake on her dress and then got so embarrassed he ran away and they never spoke again... but it was still nice... up until that point. Her story rounded to an end and she took a step back after placing the final bobbi pin. Again, "VOILA!" with her hands up in the air. She was please.
Marley listened intently to Brittany's story, giggling at how descriptive and imaginative she made it. It was easy to picture everything she was saying, even as she got distracted and went off on different tangents a couple of times. Before she knew it, her hair was done and pinned back, and the story was over. Turning around to look at herself in the mirror, Marley was definitely pleased with what she saw looking back at her. "Oh wow! You're like a hair and makeup genius!"she gushed, standing up to hug the other girl properly. "Thank you! I don't know what I would've done without you."
Brittany shrugged before being pulled into another hug, which she returned happily and held on perhaps just a bit longer than she needed to. The girl was just so soft and it felt really nice to just... be appreciated. To have someone actually /want/ to hug you, and not forcing them because you were excited. "Probably woulda just gone on the date as you usually look and he'd have liked you just the same because if he didn't he'd be stupid." she commented, "This way was just more fun and I can't wait for you to tell me afterwards that his jaw dropped." Giggling, she stepped around the girl and started tugging on her hand. "Okay, come on! We don't have much time to get you dressed before you gotta go!" Pausing at her closet, she pulled two of the dresses she had hanging, down and held them up to her. "Okay, so I narrowed it down to two that won't be too short on you and won't show too much boob because I know you're not like that." Explaining her choices, she let Marley make the final decision. "And I've got accessories and shoes already picked out for both." Britt was actually pretty proud of how much organization she put into this. She'd always wanted a sibling, and this was like having a super sweet and super hott little sister.
Marley blushed a little at Brittany's compliment. She definitely wasn't going to be used to hearing things like that anytime soon. Letting out a little giggle, she followed the blonde back into her room and to the closet. As Brittany explained her choices, Marley felt a little relieved. Not that she didn't trust Brittany explicitly, but the thought of someone else picking out her clothes always scared her a bit. Knowing that the two choices were conservative, yet still pretty, was definitely something that put her more at ease. As Brittany pulled out the choices, Marley had felt like she hadn't had as hard of a decision as this in a long time. "Ummm..." she said, looking up and down both options. "I think I'll go with the light blue!"
Brittany instantly tossed the other aside. "Excellent choice. That's the on I was gonna make you wear, anyway." Totally untrue, but she liked feeling important. "Okay, go put this on and I'll get the rest of the stuff out. Hurry hurry." Sending her off with the dress, she patted her but a few times to rush her off in the direction of the bathroom and then pulled out the little slip that had the blue tinted jewelry. She had a bracelet, necklace and earrings. Also a shaw, clutch, and shoes. Flats, because she hated heels and she could only assume Marley was the same. Plus, not knowing what Sam really had planned meant being prepared for a lot of walking, or no walking at all. "HOW YOU DOING IN THERE?" she called, over her shoulder as she laid everything out on the bed, grabbing a headband at the last minute.
Marley giggled again as Brittany tossed aside the other dress, taking her choice into her hand and admiring it a little more. "Okay!" she chirped, heading to the bathroom with a little 'eep' at the pat on her butt. Closing the door behind her, she glanced at her watch and realized she had very little time left before she was supposed to meet Sam downstairs. Rushing, but careful not to mess up her hair, she pulled off her jeans and t-shirt and slipped on the dress. "Almost done!" she called back, reaching up to zip the dress up in the back. Once she got it up, she opened the door and stepped back into Brittany's room. "Okay, done" she said with a smile, walking towards the bed. "Ooh, that's a lot of accessories" she commented, picking up the bracelet and slipping it onto her wrist. Quickly, she started pulling the rest of the items on, leaving the headband for last. "Can you do that?" she asked Brittany, holding it out to her "I don't want to mess up all of your hard work."
Brittany couldn't take her eyes off Marley the moment she walked out. "Wow... you look better in that dress than I do!" she exclaimed, although with an aire of awe and breathlessness to her voice. Britt could always appreciate a beautiful women. And good legs. Snapping out of it, she helped with the necklace an then took the headband, carefully placing it in front of the poof but behind the stray strands hanging in the front. She took a step back when she was done, handing the girl the clutch and the jacket. "In case you get cold. And to put your phone in. The lipgloss and mascara I used is already in there, just in case." Grinning, she looked at her creation and actually felt like a proud mama. "OKAY NOW GIMME ONE MORE HUG BEFORE YOU GO!" she opened her arms, pulling the other girl into them.
Marley smiled, blushing deeply, and allowed Brittany to put the headband on her hair. "Thank you Brittany! I really couldn't have done any of this without you!" Hugging her tightly, she pulled back and looked her in the eye. "Really, you're a lifesaver!" Marley never would've been able to survive the night if it weren't for all of Brittany's hard work and advice. "You'll be here to come talk to about it afterwards right?" With another hug and a glance at her watch, Marley grinned at Britt and waved goodbye, stepping into the hall and heading down to the lobby to finally meet up with Sam.
