Marjaavaan is such a strange film but I'm not up with Bollywood so maybe it's me.

Just very postmodern I guess and I haven't really seen anything like that from India. The strong 80's throwback superhero-like lead, heavy tragic romance, so much 80's style violence, the whole chandurmuki aspect. Evil guy with a snake tattoo? Check. Decent soundtrack? Check!

It's a Bollywood film that isn't ashamed to be one in this age.

I wasn't expecting it to be a thinly veiled allegory for India in Kashmir either.

*spoilers ahead* The whole wedding fantasy I think just killed the audience dead because it was adorable and incredibly relatable, cos every desi is just a romantic sap deep down. The laugh/aww everyone let out in the cinema 😂*

Another thing about this film is how enamoured the women who I saw it with are with the prettiness of Zoya and I'm like the only one whose like 'this is a movie with an actually really handsome male lead?' Yes she's lovely but here is a really attractive and age appropriate costar!

Women be obsessed with women though.

"Haaye main marjavaan". Absolutely loved the movie. Unexpressable story. The characters, music loved it! I must say, our Bollywood is a diamond mine. Love the cast and their acting too.
