Alright so this question has been circling my mind for awhile

It is about marmont and junot friendship mainly after Napoleon became emperor because before they always kinda were together but then if I try to search up after the coronation i kinda don’t get anything about their friendship or just tiny breadcrumbs, I’d like to know, if marmont kept in contact with junot? And if they stayed close with eachother?

So unfortunately theres not that much information on their relationship after 1800, partially because, despite having written very extensive memoirs, Marmont was quite a private man and did not write much about his personal relationships. Additionally, as far as I’m aware, their private correspondence has not survived.

Marmont only refers to his friendship with Junot during the peninsular war as a way of giving credence to his workplace beef, however it seems from the tone of Marmont’s writing that they were genuinely still good friends at that point!

My personal speculation is that Marmont and Junot stayed close friends until Junot died, and then Marmont didn’t write much about his relationship with Junot because he just didn’t want to talk about private tragedies in his memoirs, but that’s just my personal opinion.
