oc-tober day 6: relationships

fucks me up that shay is just a normal teenager in this pic. i think the only other time i've ever drawn him pre-prophecy is in that comic from this winter.

these were some self-indulgent stuff drawn after the most recent session because i am #1 guy who is normal about shay and don.

i still think they're so interesting. their parents being the former chosen-angel pair. them growing up knowing nothing about each other. their weird relationships with their dead dads. i think they could have a lot to talk about if they ever found it in themselves to be emotionally vulnerable

hopefully we save don from being kidnapped and can make it happen

teaghan asked me last night where i thought shay's head was at wrt the generational prophecy revelation

i feel like once the shock wears off, he's going to be a little bit pissed off ngl. i think he's been in a state of idolizing his dad: it's so much easier to remember the good parts than the bad etc etc

but with this revelation, i think there's gotta be an element of how could you do this to me? how could you not only leave me like this, but also force me to take on this incomprehensibly large burden all by myself?

you couldn't even have told me? i feel like that's a conversation that would be necessary. hey, kiddo, just so you know, we have a history of cataracts and chemical imbalances in our family, so you should be watching out for that. oh yeah, also, a sword that pulls our family inexorably into the end of the world. good luck!

[and, of course, from the audience, we know there are probably justifications. shay likely wouldn't have even been able to understand this if mark had tried to explain this to him because of the glare. maybe he did try, and it just slid off shay's brain. and mark mostly likely didn't expect to die so young - maybe after shay had graduated college and found a place would he have told him. but shay is eighteen and terrified and looking for anyone to blame even if, really, there's no one to blame]
