“The vocals on this record are so arch you can visualise clearly the raised eyebrow and sly smile of Roisin Murphy as she part sings, part purrs Eartha Kittenishly, part robot-speaks through these tracks. It’s Moloko’s debut, and it sets out well their particular stall of tongue-in-cheek electro pop. . Formed in Sheffield, the home of British electronic music, Moloko are Irish singer Roisin Murphy and North-Eastern record producer Mark Brydon. His tight arrangements with fat bouncy basslines and beats provide a perfect backdrop for Murphy’s non-singing style. . My only caveat with this album is that it’s too long, you lose some of the tightness and focus through just too many tracks, 17 in total, so that by the time you’ve got to the end, you’ve forgotten what the start sounded like and it leaves you without a strong impression of much at all. Which is a shame, since the opener, and lead single, Fun For Me, is a highlight. . 10 out of 10 however for the perfect A Clockwork Orange-inspired band name.” .
