Copy/paste thingy. ask your partner this set of questions and then write down the first thing they say Partner’s name: Marketh! 1. What is something I always say to you? “Um, ah shit. You always go *finger wag* no no no no no, when I do something wrong." 2. What makes me happy? “Sweets. Me, duh. And.. Baths! Taking baths!" (Very true. My vice is bubble baths and anything sweet. Hypoglycemia life.) 3. What makes me sad? “When I turn around when we're cuddling. (ITS TRUE) when we run out of cake or cupcakes or when we don't have anything sweet in the house. Oh, and when Walker isn't in the room.” (MY CAT WALKER IS MY BABY AND I SMOTHER HIM.) 4. How old am I? “20, right? Am I right?” 5. How tall am I? “Like 4'9'' " (iM 4'11" YOU BUTTHOLE.) 6. What’s my favorite thing to do? “Uh, watch makeup tutorials. Geez.. Uhm. Oh! Use bath bombs. Watch omegle videos and then me. Right? Yes." 😳😳😳 uh. 7. If I become famous, what will it be for? “Let's see, you would either be a really famous social worker.. Which is fucking weird cus who's famous for being a social worker?! Or be a famous makeup artist. Like Jeffree Starr. Or that other girl." 8. What am I good at? “You're good at making fucking bomb ass food! Um. Uummmm. Oh my gosh. You're really good at doing makeup. You're also really good at talking about medical stuff.. Cus I know nothing about medical stuff.. And you're good at taking care of children.. Cus God knows I can't do that crap.. At all." 9. What am I not good at? "You're not good at keeping things in their intended jars.. Like liquids, for example. Um. Keeping things in one piece, and not in a million on the ground. Keeping things in dry conditions. Kinda see what I'm getting at here?" (I GET IT. I'm clumsy. 😭) 10. What makes you proud of me? “The fact that you're really smaaaart, and you told your mom to basically fuck off. And that you left a really bad situation and chose to move forward annnnnd I'm really proud of the person you are today." (He's trying to be sappy, but he sounds more tired than sappy. 😂❤️) 11. What is my favorite food? "Holy shit, okay. So you like panclocks. You always get pancakes at Denny's. You like pastas. Corned beef and cabbage." (He did okay on this one, but I don't really talk about foods, anyway. So I'll give him this one as a free bee. 😉) What do we do together "We don't do anything together because we are one. Through our bleeding, we are one. To infinity and beyonnnddd.. Look at my leg. It looks weird. It looks like a leg.” (I've officially lost him at this point. He's really bad at being any sort of sappy. That's why. 😭😂😂) 13. Where is my favorite place to eat? “Hmm. It's between Denny's and Black bear. Right?" 14. How old was I when I met you? “You were like five. You looked five, anyways. You were like... 13.” 15. When is our anniversary? “November 10th." 16. If I could go anywhere, where would it be? “You would go to Ireland. London. And thennn... You would go to a beach in California. But it has to be SoCal. Because duh." 17. Do you think you could live with me forever? “Yeeaaaup." 18. How do I annoy you? (He chuckled I'm scared.) "sometimes when we've woken up, and I had JUST woken up.. You're already talking your fifth sentence. But that's just because I'm not a morning person." 19. What is your favorite thing about me? “My faborite ting about you is that you fit perfectly in my arms Cus you're really leedle and your lips stick out when you're just siting there so it's easy to just be like BAM. Punch you with my lips. And your eye color.. It's my FAVORITE. And you always know when I'm tired, even when I don't even know that I'm tired. Yeah." 20. What would you change about me? “I would change the past things that you've dealt with, Cus I know that it bears heavily on you.. Not like.. Heavy bears.. But yeah. “ (his dad jokes kill me.) Okay! We did the thing. It was very fun. We enjoyed it. Also. @nintendo-666 we love you!
Underneath the Underneath (Bonus Bits): A Dynamic Economy in Skyrim
“Dear Skyrim Modders (/Bethesda), Attached is a request and proposal for a dynamic, interactive, world economy in Skyrim, as well as a new Trader skill tree. Please peruse my proposal and deeply consider implementing it. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Patrick (Of The Modern Gamer)” So yeah I have discovered that playing video games actually takes time. Large chunks of time. Chunks I occasionally do not have the luxury of allotting. Basically it is gonna be a bit of time till I can finish my next video game analysis of “Shadows of the Colossus”. (Yes I am aware that I am digging my own shallow grave) And so since I don’t want to leave you all without content, (Or heaven forbid subject you to more of Victor’s..... “Opinions” *shudders*) I have decided to start a new segment of Underneath the Underneath called Bonus Bits, wherein I will rant about various random views I have on the construction of various games. Without further ado... Enjoy! First, allow me to acknowledge that I am a strange, abnormal, oddity who often holds personal opinions that are extremely ostracized from the current gamer culture. With that said, I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT SKYRIM TO HAVE A DYNAMIC, INTERACTIVE ECONOMY! I want to be able to buy goods at one city and travel to sell them at another for a profit. I want to be able to buy a carriage and spend my Mondas’ riding along Skyrim’s winding mountains, smelling the crisp air and taking in the breathtaking beauty of the scenery while the occasional stone crushes under my wheels, shaking my wagon and breaking the peaceful silence of the Reach with a crisp, earthly crack. I am and have always been the player who hated fighting. I became an Archer for the sole purpose of being able to sneak-kill everyone from a distance and take all their stuff. Dungeon crawling leaves me uneasy and exhausted. But the thought of being able to play the markets, making cunning business deals and trick the corrupt traders into a cunning economic trap exhilarates me. I understand that I am the exception to the “Kill everything that moves” demographic to which Skyrim is aimed. And yet, I cannot get over how perfectly Skyrim is set up for such an economic system. Each town is perfectly crafted as either a Consumer (Solitude) or a supplier (Marketh). The roads, rivers, towns, people, infrastructure, even the plots are perfectly set for a dynamic interactive economy. For example, in both Riften and Marketh, the city is corrupted and manipulated by economic powerhouse families. (The Silver-Bloods in Marketh and the Black-Briars in Riften) In both cities, no amount of questing can free these towns from their plagues, even though it seems every other quest in the towns expound on how corrupted and horrible they have become. While this may be a subtle argument by Bethesda that sometimes no amount of Heroism can completely fix a situation, it could lead to so much more! The families are in power solely because of their economic prowess, so how better would it be to take them down than through trading? Quests designed to usurp the families economically and bankrupt them, then using your wealth and influence to either revive the cities or become the next economic dictator yourself. Such a quest would provide a much more detailed and real argument. The system could also appeal to those “Kill everything” people. With the rise of trading caravans and traveling merchants, inevitably comes Highwaymen. Thus the traders would need Bodyguards to protect them, for a fee of course. Or... the player could pick up a scary looking pointy bit and go harassing the unsuspecting merchants! This system lends itself to not only creating a slurry of new trading based missions, but also new missions for the Thieves Guild as well as for the Companions. So enough hyping, now on to actually explaining what I mean by a “Dynamic and Interactive Economy.” First, I need to define what I mean by Dynamic. Currently, each item in Skyrim has a set inherent value (what you see when you look at it in your inventory) and the value which you can buy/sell it for, and these two values only differ according to how high the player’s speech is. Thus, the entire economy in Skyrim is dependent solely on the player’s speech. Not only is this highly egotistical, it is just plain lazy and boring. Instead, I propose an economic mechanic based upon supply and demand. Each town and city would have a set amount of product which its merchants purchase every few days, and would vary according to their area’s specialties. (food in Whiterun, Dwemer goods and silver in Marketh, fish and mead in Riften, sea trade and fine goods in Solitude, Iron, Quicksilver, and Horker products in Dawnstar, ect. ) The price of any given item in a city would depend on the supply of said item in the city. For example, a Dwemer greatsword in Riften might cost as high as 400 coins, whereas that same sword may only cost 100 coins in Marketh, where the local market is flooded with Dwemer goods.
Furthermore, each merchant in every town would be programmed so as to always seek the highest price for their goods. Thus, if a merchant in Marketh has twenty Dwemer Greatswords, he would make much more money selling them in Riften than in Marketh; thus, he (or a hired apprentice) would hitch up the wagon, load in all the Greatswords, and set off for Riften.
However, realistically traveling isn’t free. The cost of food for yourself and your horse, as well as the cost of lodging all cut into the merchant’s profit. So say it costs 50 coin to travel to Whiterun, where he can sell each sword for 300 coin, but traveling all the way to Riften, where he can sell each for 400, would cost 150 coins. Therefore, traveling there and back, the merchant would make 100 coin more per sword selling in Whiterun than at home, but traveling all the way to Riften would only get him the same price that he could get at home. And so, he packs up and travels to Whiterun to sell his goods.
This dynamic market would not only allow for a greater mix of goods and wealth across Skyrim, but would also lead to more active, entertaining roads to travel along/plunder. Now I also mentioned interactive. This means that the player’s actions would directly affect the market. For instance, raiding a caravan of food merchants may cause the price of food to skyrocket in a town, which would then depreciate other goods such as weapons and jewelry, since merchants would be focusing more on buying and selling food than luxury goods which people in the town would not be buying. Furthermore, the player dumping a massive load of Dwemer weapons in a town might depreciate the item so much that a merchant who arrives a day later may have to sell his whole stock of Dwemer weapons at such a loss that he goes bankrupt, and he sells his store, thus preventing the player from trading with him in the future, or allowing the player a chance to buy the store from him. On that note, the last thing I would propose is a new Trader skill tree. It would be tied to the speech tree and offer benefits such as increased carrying capacity, faster moving speed while over encumbered, and the final perk, which could only be unlocked by paying an absurdly large amount of gold, would be the ability to build your own shop from the ground up. So yeah, that’s my humble request to either Bethesda or the Modders. Now all I can do is wait and hope! Hope you all enjoyed this Bonus Bits, and I’ll have my next Underneath the Underneath up soon. Keep gaming my friends, and always remember to look Underneath the Underneath. Sincerely, Patrick, Of the Modern Gamer
