One think I’ll never get over is that Three Hopes literally canonized Ashe having the ability to see and communicate with ghosts.
You know, Ashe, the famous I’m-deathly-afraid-of ghosts guy. Ashe the I-carry-around-a-holy-amulet-to-keep-them-away guy. Ashe the “you haven’t seen what I’ve seen,” guy.
It’s absolutely delightful to think about imagine Ashe going about his day at the monastery unaware that he’s been talking to ghosts as well because I imagine between classes or mission during the war he just thinks those guys are really weird.
Like imagine he spots the groundskeeper who only shears the same three hedges and so Ashe walks up to him and asks if he’d like some help trimming the other hedges and the groundskeeper is so startled Ashe can see him but agrees anyway. It’s nice to be able to talk to someone while he works again.
Or Ashe coming back from a scouting mission and having a chat with one of the knights of Seiros who was wandering around the stables super late. They seemed lonely they were super excited to talk. And Ashe jokes about ghosts wandering around at this time and they smile mysteriously like “That would be something, wouldn’t it?” And Ashe just thinks this guy is a lil strange but he vibes with it.
Then the absolute horror at finding out he can see ghosts because GHOSTS ARE REAL WHAT THE HELL??? OH SWEET SERIOS HOW MANY GHOSTS HAS HE SPOKEN TOO?
And then he has a delightful infirmary visit with Mercedes at which point she promptly drags Ashe out ghost hunting with her.
He hates his life. He does not want to be here. But what was he supposed to do? Let Mercedes wander in the woods alone??? That wouldn’t be very chivalrous.
(He sees Dimitri talking to air addressing it as his father. Then he looks over at the corner where the actual ghost of king Lambert is watching, scowling up a storm as his hobo son keeps trying to placate the ghost calling for the heads of Those Responsible like “I would never say that! Ashe tell him I didn’t say that!”
And Ashe just dumbly goes “King Lambert isn’t over there.” And point at an empty wall.
Dimitri stops his mad raving for a minute to just. Stare. And Ashe stares back. Then Dimitri just. Walks away and goes back to his dark brooding corner and gives him the bombastic side eye)
