Korean beer is never among my top choices but hey, if it's the only choice in a Korean restaurant, it ain't half bad. Created some 80 years ago, Hite beer is a light pale lager made from "the purest well water", meshed with barley and hops. Golden with a little head, it's mild but refreshing and decent enough for Korean dishes such as BBQ meats or jjimdak (braised chicken in a sweet and savoury broth). Never knew there are gluten-free beer till it was the only beer choice I had during dinner at gluten-free restaurant Open Door Policy the other day. Green's Dry Hopped Lager - which is "naturally gluten & wheat free" - pours golden with a little head and has a fruity, citrus and hoppy taste. Craft brewed in Belgium, a "manly beer" it ain't, with the taste more akin to Japanese or Taiwanese fruity brews.
