Prompt: They Made Me Do It

Dark didn't know that this deal would put him in the frozen tundra. It was supposed to be simple, practically a fetch quest for a soul. The problem came when his aura pulled him to the place he would find the item, and the bare skin on his face and hands was hit instantly with icy cold air. The shock of it had him rigid for a long moment before he pulled his hellfire aura tight against his skin. He warped reality to form a coat and gloves, simultaneously changing his dress shoes to boots.

Right. Still simple, he only needed to find it quickly. After all, he was well aware that his body heat was naturally lower than that of a human. He was well aware that his aura would only keep him warm for so long, and well aware that he needed the warmth. So he began moving through the snow, his aura tugging him in the right direction every so often.

It was a slow process with his aura reluctant to lead him, intent on staying against his skin to warm him but compelling him to stay. Too slow for Dark's comfort, as he could feel the heat diminishing with every step through the snow. He was shivering, he realized as he stopped for a moment, the red of his aura barely visible. He clenched his jaw tighter at the realization, scanning the area around him. It was only a deal- a simple one. He would not let it kill him.

His determination seemed to pay off in that moment, as his eyes landed on an indentation in the snow, a slight misshape in the otherwise disorienting sameness of the surrounding white. He wasted no time moving to it even as he grimaced at the bite of the wind on his face. Then, however- reprieve. An almost eerie stillness replaced that wind as Dark stumbled into a cave, and he took the few seconds after stepping in to catch his breath. Snow settled in the cave entrance, undisturbed but for his footprints, and the place didn't look as though it had ever been inhabited. That was fine by Dark. He was weakened, and he wanted to retrieve the item and leave. He moved further into the cave with the intent to do just that, pulling his coat tight against himself.

But what was a fetch quest without obstacles?

Dark thought that the cold was enough of one. He didn't anticipate his weakness to the cold being exploited while he was trapped in this deal. He didn't anticipate the blow that knocked him into the cave wall just then, and he definitely didn't anticipate the cruel smile of the one he'd made the deal with, staring down at him.

Dark gave a weakened growl, his aura flaring briefly only to die back down with his diminishing strength.

"I expected you in particular to be a challenge," The man's voice came with the confident air of someone who knew that they had won. "Oh, well. I have more use for you than the retrieval of some treasure, though I'm just as inclined to leave you here to freeze. What do you say we modify our deal? Maybe then we can prevent that from happening."

What a fine predicament he had gotten himself into. This would clearly not be as simple as Dark thought, but he would be damned if he died before he could make the man pay. Dark's next words came through clenched teeth.

"...Name your terms."
