💥 Last chance to see: #markwallinger Mark Wallinger one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists and Turner Prize winner exhibiting for the first time in Cyprus at ‘Attempts to Escape’ group exhibition curated by #mariastathi @artseen_contemporary Image: Mark Wallinger ‘UN-‘, 2010, ink on paper | Kyriakos Kallis ‘Colonies’, 2019 | Phanos Kyriacou ‘Balancing Step’, 2019 👉 Come and see Mark Wallinger’s works: ‘UN’, 2010 at the facade of the gallery : “In the Green Zone you see the United Nations initials, black on white, painted oil-cans. After a while I found I had started reading UN as UN- … (the hyphenated ‘UN’ is printed in large letters).’ The presence of the United Nations anywhere, Wallinger would later say, tends to feel like a marker that something has gone wrong, come undone; the gap between UN and UN-, arguably, is that between what we would like to happen, a space of possibility, and that which actually transpires: what has been done cannot be un-done. UN will emblazon in huge letters on the gallery façade. Inside, directly behind the façade to serve as its flipside, ‘UN-’, (2010), a list of nous, verbs, adjectives and adverts from the American publisher Funk & Wagnall’s Standard Dictionary of the English Language, each beginning with the prefix ‘un-’ This reciprocity between mind and matter would characterize the work.Text by Martin Herbert #martinherbert All works by #markwallinger are Courtesy the artist and Hauser & Wirth @hauserwirth #artseen #groupexhibition #markwallinger #kyriakoskallis #phanoskyriacou #attemptstoescape #artseengallery #artseenprojects #art #contemporaryart #conceptualart #sculpture #video #installation #collage #photography #artexhibition #contemporarycurator #mariastathi #artseenartists #collectart #instanart #nicosia #cyprus #london #uk #un Photo by @nicosloucas (at Art Seen - Contemporary Art Projects & Editions) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByUZbGmlAP8/?igshid=mhzu3wkwwf80
