(Re)reading Tolerating Vermin Celebrations (TVC)
I’m rereading Tolerating Vermin Celebrations from the beginning, all at once (with occasional interruptions to eat and sleep and take an ADHD brain break) -- the way it’s meant to be read.
When you beta read a chapter at a time, often separated by over a month, it’s a very different experience than one would typically have with a fanfic. So right now, it’s sort of like rereading and sort of like encountering for the first time. It feels more zoomed out in a way, as I’m seeing the work more as a whole now, and yet I’m also noticing and appreciating more details.
Just like when I watch a good movie or TV show from the beginning after seeing the end, I’m appreciating so many moments in it I hadn’t fully grasped originally. I’m even curious how many were intended as such in the first place, and how many just “felt right” at the time. Maybe when I comment, Millions will tell me?
Anyway, I’m partway through the second chapter, which takes place at Christmas.
And wow. This story is making me think, so much. Even more than I’d expected.
My headcanons of postcanon anime Knives, Vash, and the girls *are* TVC.
And now I’m comparing TVC with things it’s inspired me to write. Specifically, I’m comparing how Knives earns others’ trust and they how learn to appreciate his efforts, how long it takes, why, and just having so many big brain thoughts.
It’s like hearing Millions’ ideas in chat while reading a good story!
#thank you millions #ily #why am I saying this here they’re not on Tumblr #whatever the point still stands
