#DevilStandout - Game 4 (#MaroonMonsoon)
We want you to pick this week’s #DevilStandout. The four nominees are listed below, so tweet your pick to @FootballASU with hashtag #DevilStandout and the winner will be announced Monday.
Offense — #Grice – Senior running back Marion Grice notched four touchdowns, including two rushing and two receiving, to help ASU post its most points ever against USC and the second-most points in Pac-10/12 competition.
This is the second four-touchdown game of the season for Grice, who leads the nation with 12 touchdowns, including eight rushing and four receiving, through four games this season, and he has 18 touchdowns, including 13 rushing and five receiving, over the past seven games.
He lined up at running back, kick returner and played wildcat quarterback against the Trojans as he recorded 177 all-purpose yards, including 65 rushing on 12 carries, 36 receiving on seven catches (tied for a team-high) and 78 kick return, that contributed to the Devils’ 612 total yards of offense, the most in a conference game since 2000.
Grice is averaging a touchdown nearly 15 percent of the time he touches the ball this season and for his career he is averaging a touchdown per every 7.4 touches (31 touchdowns on 231 touches).
Defense – #Darby – Senior safety Alden Darby collected a pair of interceptions against the Trojans, including a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
This marks the second straight game against the Trojans that Darby has recorded a pick-six after his 70-yard TD return in last year’s game at the Coliseum.
Offense – #OLine – The starting offensive line for the Sun Devils did not allow a sack all game against the Trojans, a team that ranked first in the Pac-12 and fourth in the nation in that category with four per game.
Offense - #Kelly - Taylor Kelly passed for three touchdowns and 351 yards on the Trojan defense, the second-highest by any quarterback in the ASU-USC series and the most for a Sun Devil. His performance tonight is the seventh time he has eclipsed 300 yards through the air, including all four this season. His seven games with 300+ yards are tied for third most for any ASU quarterback in history.
Kelly also completed the longest pass of his career, a 74-yard touchdown strike to D.J. Foster, in the third quarter.
