Okay making a poll bc mom and I keep arguing ab the correct interpretation of these two things.

If you're asking someone what day you should make an appointment so they can drive you to/from it, and they say "I'm on vacation the week of XYZ", does that mean they want you to schedule for that week, or avoid that week? If someone says "try to favor your left side when eating", should the person eat on their left side, or are they being told to avoid their left side?

I'm just curious what other people think.

My cousin is having surgery and needed my mom to take her there and home. She needed to know what day works best for mom. Mom told her "well I'm off the week of XYZ". Cousin interpreted that to mean "I want you to schedule that week".

I agree with cousin, mom says she was trying to tell her any week but that week is fine.

I had dental work done and my dentist told me to favor the side I had just had work done on when I eat.

To me, "favor that side", means use that side more. Mom disagrees.

Now I know he meant avoid that side, but it bothered me because I interpret favor xyz to mean use that side more.
