I'm interested to know what your favourite Malcolm in the middle plot is (or just your opinions on the show in general) bc it's honestly rare to find another fan here on tumblr
This is honestly so difficult...
My favourite episode has always been 'If Boys Were Girls' because I just loved the idea that the girls didn't conform to the stereotype of being perfect and they were just as bad as the boys - with less violence and more manipulation and gaslighting of course! (also I really loved Reese's blue hoodie in this episode, it looked so comfortable).
Other than that, I really like the Reese- and Dewey-focused episodes, because they provide such a stark contrast to Malcolm.
Reese being able to cook really well was such an amazing trait to give him, and it allowed him to thrive at and really enjoy something that wasn't just beating up children. And I really liked that they explored that throughout the show. But I think it would have been really cool if he'd explored his culinary skills in a professional setting. Also, it would have been really interesting if they'd explored his very clear self-esteem issues (outside of kind of playing for laughs). Reese was such a cool character, because the whole point of him was he was the stupid foil to Malcolm's genius, but he did have such a brilliant mind, but he constantly used it for evil. ALSO HE CANONICALLY DESERTED THE US ARMY AFTER BEING DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN AND HE MANAGED TO LIVE WITH NO SUPPLIES OR SURVIVAL INSTINCTS???? My boy deserves more credit for defying authority and being an all-round legend. (also he was one of the first characters I remember who gave me such violent gender envy: his frosted tips, his lanky frame, his hoodies - I NEED HIS GENDER BIBLICALLY)
And Dewey was such a well-developed character, because he started off just being the baby brother who went along with Reese and Malcolm's crazy schemes (but was often the victim of them). But then you see him gain sentience in a way, and he becomes the perpetrator of these schemes. And he's just as smart as Malcolm!!! He's a brilliant musician (and the episode 'Dewey's Opera' was always one of my favourites), and he exhibits both traditional intellect and street smarts. And to be honest it's kind of heartbreaking seeing him constantly ignored and undermined by the rest of the family. HE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER!!! Also, he could have been a Krelboyne, but he was so loyal to the Buseys that he stayed with them because he knew they were being completely failed by the school system. He's such a legend and he's kind of like the perfect mix of Malcolm's intelligence and manipulation tactics and Reese's desire for mindless violence.
My top five episodes have got to be: If Boys Were Girls, Dewey's Opera, Burning Man, Army Buddy, Reese Cooks (in no particular order, because I can't possibly rank these easily)
