Daily Drabble - 3/7/18 - flowers

Prompt – flowers

Characters - stan/jimmy

Word Count – 494

 Notes – uhhh I love these boys and I love this ship and I will die for them, honest to god. I don’t think I’ve ever written as many genuinely cute and happy things for any pairing as I have for them, and I am proud to say that I have continued that trend tonight

  It’s half past four when someone knocks on the front door. Stan is already on his third beer of the night, and his second cheesy horror movie.   He sinks lower down on the couch, fumbling for the mute button on the remote.   Is it too late to just turn off the volume and pretend like no one is home? Evidently it is, because there’s another knock a moment later. It’s louder this time, a bit more impatient.   Stan groans. He takes one last swig from his beer before lurching to his feet, leaving the movie muted as he heads for the door. “Kyle,” says Stan, loudly, before he even gets the knob turned. “I told you, I was busy tonight. We can go look at that th – oh. Jimmy. You’re, uh, here.”   Jimmy grins, all crooked teeth and scrunched up nose. “W-w-wow, Stan. That w-was sure s-some gr-greeting! I fuh-feel so w-welcome n-now.”   “I thought you were Kyle?” Stan shrugs, not really sure what to do with this. He tries really hard not to do stupid stuff like forget dates. “I wasn’t supposed to meet you anywhere, right? Because, uh, I’m really sorry if I was. It’s not an excuse or anything like that, but I had practice earlier today and then I was just, uh, not really feeling much like doing anything.”   Stan is acutely aware of the fact that his explanation does sound like an excuse.   More importantly, he’s aware of the fact that it sounds like a shitty excuse.   But Jimmy just laughs like it’s some great joke, and then he’s holding out one hand, a bouquet of flowers clutched in crooked fingers. “N-no. We wuh-weren’t supposed to meet. I j-just was out and saw th-thu-these and wanted tuh-to bring them over.”   Stan’s cheeks are burning. He’s spent a life-time listening to Kyle talk about flowers – their names, distinctive qualities and meanings. Right now, though, his mind is blank in a way that has nothing to do with cheap beer and everything to do with embarrassment and butterflies fluttering around in his chest.   It kind of feels like he’s ten years old all over again and Wendy’s just given him a Valentine’s Day card. Only this is better because they’re actually dating, and Jimmy brought flowers instead of a stock paper card bought in a box of fifteen and given out to every kid in class.   He clutches the bouquet with both hands, holding it against his chest. Stan sniffs a particularly vibrant looking yellow flower. “Fuck, Jimmy. These are, uh, wow. These are really great. Thanks. I love them.”

entered a stage of procrastination yesterday where i became obsessed with a film. this is kind of okay except for the fact that it is currently at sundance and does not have a release date or a trailer and there are like four interview videos and six tweets about it and i kept rewatching those videos and rereading those tweets instead of writing the essay that’s due on friday that’s worth 65% of my grade in one of my classes
