I saw there's a Tolkien Duck Week and I have never posted my Fellowship of Ducks, I realise! They're inspired by both the Muscovy ducks in the garden of the Watermill theatre, where the Lord of the Rings musical was brought back to the stage after a long absence in 2023, and by the actors in said production.

The Constellations of northern Arda - an autumn sky above Thangorodrim

The constellations of Arda - a night sky made up of the constellations of Tolkien's Legendarium (and some added real ones (lyra, swan, dragon) that seemed to fit thematically) overlaid over an autumnal sky of our northern hemisphere. (somewhat expanded to get all of them in one view (e.g. do not @ me about orion or corona borealis ;) )

Also, for the Tolkien astronomy nerds(TM), Anarríma (which we don't have any information on besides the name) is probably meant to be an adaptation of pegasus. So the actual depiction is completely made up by me.

I ultimately landed on the idea of a giant spider (as the name translates to something like the edge/border of light/the sun) The spider not only fits well with the long limbs of the pegasus but Ungoliant's (and her descendants') stories do always play out in that edge of light and the sun, always desiring, craving and devouring it but also shying away from it. /rant over

(In our group the word nefarious has evolved to have a different meaning there from english nefarious, not to worry. It means something in the vein of working on an exciting clandestine or very elaborate scheme or project, and it's associated with the fox. Anyway.)

Also now I am mad I do not have a costume can justify making a surcote for lol. Every time I draw costumes, I give myself FOMO.

The War of Wrath or Eärendil's Return

(omg i am so bad at posting my art in a timely fashion) Anyway, I was very happy to create the cover for last autumn's Flammifer (the magazine of the German Tolkien society. It is a sister piece to my Eärendil art that I made for the cover of Amon Hen, which showed Eärendil's voyage and sacrifices and how people on Arda call out to him from his view. In this image we see him from the perspective of everyone that looks for him in the night sky, as a eucatastrophe returning for a last time.

It is TRSB time again! After a slightly rocky process with finding author(s) for my prompt this year, I am so happy this art found a home with @fiammagalathon. And in a quite late pinch hit! So I hope you enjoy a dive into the really depressing and chaotic moment that is very late Númenor. This art has been in a perpetual state of early WIP since trsb 2022, but it finally found its way to actually being drawn, and I think I like this version much better than I would have done then, probably. The Akallabêth tells the tale of the Fall of Númenor. Well. Of the Lords, and of how their actions led to it. For the common folk there is little place in tales and legends.

Here comes my @tolkienrsb 2024 art! (Acrylic, 40x80cm) I've also been fascinated by the time period in the Years of the Trees before the conflicts within the Noldor truly boil over, but when they are just starting to arise. The "Finwëan family picnic" painting has in some form or another been going back and forth from WIP/abandoned WIP since 2021, so I am also happy to finally have done the idea justice :D

The fic for this piece has been written by @skaelds, who managed to beautifully bring the painting alive in her words and expand on the little moments we see, tying the little scenes together in the evening that the family shares at their yearly picnic. As the Finwëans try to cherish the yearly meeting, the many little tensions and cracks in the peace beautifully explore this strange moment in Aman. Since we now have a subtitled version of Falešné společenstvo's Children of Hurin musical, (go watch it!) we had a little watchparty yesterday and it was so goooood (and very sad.) I have to rewatch it soon though bc I missed quite a bit of the middle, and in general to catch all the details.

However I had a vision I needed to draw, brought to you by the alternate reality where I apparently make costumes for fs and don't seem to have budget constraints xD

Oh, brightest sun (TRSB 2023)

A hommage to Gustav Klimt's The Kiss. Acrylic paint on canvas, with gold acrylic colour, 45x45cm. This scene had fascinated me ever since I read about it in the Nature of Middle-earth, and even more so when I became obsessed with Mîm as a character. While the ship of Mîmrod was born in a discord server I am in as a joke, that joke led to me originally drafting the sketch for this painting.

@goschatewabn has taken up this prompt- in a pinchhit no less - and has written, a beautiful, beautiful, fic that also absolutely tears my heart out. Find more info & the link to the fic below!
