#MarshallMonday throwback to 2018. . 1970 #Marshall #Lead20 (#model2022) with its original 4 x10. This was sold as an outfit so the cab doesn't have a model number. . I only have one vintage Marshall amp in my collection. Why? 1) they are super rare on on this side of the pond, and 2) when they do come up for sale they are super expensive! Even before the current pricing madness in the vintage market, a vintage Marshall was going to cost 3 or 4 times as much here as a Fender from the same era 😳 . The guitar is my 1961 LesPaul Junior. . I haven't done a #MarshallMonday in a while! . This is my 1970 #Marshall #Model2022 #Lead20 with original 4 x 10. There was also #Bass20 (#model2019) and #LeadandBass20 (#model2061), which was reissued as the #2061x, but the 2022 was the "Lead" model. . People often ask me what model number the 4 x10 cab is, but my understanding is that these were sold as an outfit, i.e. the cab was not available as a separate item, so it does not have a model number of its own. . #GoldtopTuesday meets #MarshallMonday! . 1970 #Marshall #Model2022 #Lead20 2006 #Gibson Custom #LesPaul #R7 . Check out the last post from my friend/nemesis @readyaimcheese for a bit of behind the scenes on this shot. It was done with one flash, a softbox and egg crate, and some white cardboard DIY V-Flats for reflections (and to add some reflected light to the left side of the pic). Photographers I admire such as @eleanorjanephoto and @williamjohnbennettiii make artificial light look really easy, but let me tell you...it's hard work to make a guitar pic look good with a flash! But I'll keep trying and learning! 🙂 . Here's a really fun one from my collection I don't pull out too often: super clean and minty 1959 #Gibson #ES140 3/4T with original cardboard case. I've heard some people say the 140 is like a mini ES175, and maybe that was more true about the full depth models made in the earlier 50s, but in terms of this one's thin body and decoration/fanciness it's more like a mini ES125TC than a 175. . Plugged directly into the 1970 Marshall Model2022 on 10 (these amps don't go to 11, contrary to the popular myth!) you better believe there is instantaneous howling hollowbody feedback if you take your hands off the strings for even a nanosecond! Oh, but the glorious crunch! Imagine, if you will, the sheer terror of the following situation: . You are the proud owner of this 1970 #Marshall 20 watt head (with original 4 x 10 cab) and one day, a few weeks ago, you are happily noodling away on it, doing your best attempt at Hendrix (which is poor at best - but that's beside the point!), and all of a sudden...it just STOPS WORKING! It's completely dead. Kaput! The pilot light is on. The tube heaters are glowing. The whole enchilada looks like it *should* be working. But no sound is coming out of it. Not even a faint hum! 😳 . Now, something like this happened to me once before...and it was a blown output transformer that time! So my mind instantly goes there, and I start panicking. As you know the original OT is considered one of the most important parts in a classic amp. The rational part of my mind knows that there are SO MANY things that can go wrong in a 50 year old tube amp. I was praying it was something minor like a bad tube socket connection! But I couldn't get the thought of a blown OT out of my mind, and that the amp would never be the same again! Let's just say it was brown trouser time at Casa DeeBeeUs™ that day! 🤣😆😄😀🙂😐😶🙁🤢🤮 . So: a couple of weeks ago I packed it off to my amp tech @marshalllespaulfan, with my fingers crossed, hoping against hope, that it was just something simple. And after a quick check he diagnosed...you guessed it...a bad tube socket connection! The OT was just fine! OMG my old heart can't take this sh*t lol. 🤪 So #ToneHenge™ has been restored to it's former glory and all is right with the world again! I'm sitting here as we speak playing the 2006 #CustomShop sparkle #Strat directly into it at medium to high volume, doing my best (poor) Hendrix imitation, and enjoying myself immensely! .
