Tonight I discovered The Undiscovered Country and I feel pretty middling about it. Not a lot of it provoked strong feelings in me either way. It was fine!
Here are some thoughts in no particular order:
💫 I love their boardroom fight. Just two space husbands yelling at each other across a giant desk. Just goes to show marriage is hard even if you’re a telepath.
💫 I liked Valeris! Obviously she makes some real bad choices, but she’s hot and interesting and I really loved her arc with Spock.
💫 I’m always glad when we get a little humor from the rest of the cast. Their piles of Klingon dictionaries are very funny to me.
💫 you should have made him kiss himself you cowards
💫 Spock asking Bones to help with the torpedo and Bones’ joyful reaction is now one of my favorite Spones moments. It’s just such a perfect, quick example of their playful teasing and professional respect.
💫 I liked Martia! Like with Valeris she obviously makes some bad choices, but she’s interesting! And tbh I’m always going to be excited to see more women in Trek even when they’re on the wrong side.
💫 I was an English major, of course I liked all the quotes.
💫 Captain Sulu! You deserve it man, good for you. I bet Chekov wants to get a transfer over asap.
Overall, it was fine!

And I’m honestly not sure where I want to put Star Trek (2009) on the list. It feels like such a different thing. Probably right around the same place as Final Frontier and Undiscovered Country.
