WHERE DO YOU GO IF YOU WANT TO STUDY LETTERING? Here’s the story of what was a tipping point in my career as a lettering artist and what inspired The Lettering Seminar (also swipe to see my baby face during my studies in type design back in 2009 🤣). I’m originally a graphic designer. I approached lettering without even knowing what lettering was while creating prints for T-shirts (I used to work for @levis, you might still own a T-shirt designed by me!). Later on, I decided to further my interest in letter forms, and enrolled for a master in type design in the The Netherlands.This experience was a tipping point in my life, and I never looked back after that. Taking formal education in letter design really made me understand the world of typography and letterforms, and ultimately turned it into my creative playground. I learned a lot through making and working with commercial clients, but that foundation was essential to get me there where I wanted to be. Where would I go now if O wanted to study lettering? This question triggered the content of The Lettering Seminar and shaped its curriculum. My team and I came up with the idea of creating a more complete teaching experience for lettering than “just” a workshop. A course that provides more than an experience of a few hours but real theoretical information, leading to a tangible result. An educative experience that allows the students owning their work after taking the course. Perhaps the most rewarding part for me as a teacher was that I had the chance to see many of the students thrive after attending the seminar. I included extensive content in this seminar, and the biggest take away is the work you’ll create throughout the seminar.
