Go apple picking V.S. Go on a hay ride  (apples for pies obviously)

Scary V.S. Sweet (bitty is definitely more of a treat than a trick kind of person)

Sweaters V.S. Boots (Bitty has a large sweater collection as it gets cold at Samwell. He also steals a lot of Jack’s)

Socks V.S. Mittens (this one is more difficult, as both his hands and feet get really cold, but hands are easier to warm up. you can just stick them in your boyfriend’s pockets)

Bonfires V.S. Football (if given the choice between a bonfire with his friends and watching a football match, he’d probably choose the former. don’t tell his dad)

Trick or Treating V.S. Watch Scary movies (there are certain kinds of scary movies bitty can’t watch without being terrified, but give him any ghost or monster ones and he’s totally fine. he does, however, love watching a team of 6ft + men falling apart at the ring)

Apple Pie V.S. Pumpkin Pie (how could you ask bitty to choose between two kinds of pie?? that’s like asking which child he prefers)

Halloween V.S. Thanksgiving (bitty loves halloween, he loves costumes and having parties. but thanksgiving definitely holds a special place in his heart, both past holidays with his parents and ones with his teammates) 

Bake Pie V.S. Bake Cookies (this basically isn’t even a question)

Rain V.S. Fog

Black Cats V.S. Owls 

Ghosts V.S. Wizards (wizards always seemed pretty cool. bitty liked the idea of another world full of people who were different)

Harry Potter V.S. Halloweentown (see the above)

Go Hiking V.S. Sleep in (bitty will get up for hockey and skating, but no Jack Zimmermann, he does not want to go on a hike at 6am)

Cinnamon V.S. Nutmeg (both are good, but cinnamon is the best)

Reading V.S. Writing (he has his own youtube channel, and i like to imagine he might have a written blog later in life)

Hot Chocolate V.S. Tea 

Live in a Cabin In a Forest V.S. Have it be fall 24/7 (i don’t think he’d like either of these. bitty likes all the seasons for different reasons, and while he would’t mind taking a break in a cabin, i don’t think he’d want to live there full time)

Candy Apples V.S. Caramel Apples

Blankets V.S. Pillows

Roasted marshmallows V.S. Roasted Chestnuts 

Coffee V.S. Apple Cider

Red Leaves V.S. Orange Leaves (red because it’s closer to Samwell’s colours)

Scented Candles V.S. The Smell of Fresh Baked Goods (while bitty is a fan of scented candles, nothing beats the smell of baking in a house)

Carve Pumpkins V.S. Make Pumpkin Pie (he likes doing both, as you can then use all the parts of the pumpkin. but if he absolutely had to pick then it would be pie)

Pumpkin Spice Lattes V.S. Chai Tea Lattes (at it again with that pumpkin coffee, eh bittle?)

Coats V.S. Oversized Sweaters (ooh, this one is hard. he’s a fan of both. coats layered over blazers layered over shirts is such a nice style, but then wearing jack’s sweaters is so relaxing when he’s at home)

Beanies V.S. Berets (the only person in the Haus who can get away with a beret is lardo, because she’s an artist. that and she actually suits them. shitty tried to wear one once and got shouted out of the haus. bitty’s preference has absolutely nothing to do with how sometimes his boyfriend wears beanies.

Candy Corn V.S. Peanut Butter Cups

S'mores V.S. Apple Crisp

Jump In a Pile of Leaves V.S. Swing on a Tire Swing

Corn Maze V.S. Haunted House (bitty went to quite a few cornmazes as a kid. he much prefers them to haunted houses, which he will jump in and probably scream. corn mazes are a lot more fun, especially if you have a hockey team to play marco polo with)

Bob For Apples V.S. Visit a Pumpkin Patch (the smh team have definitely done competitions. they get very competative. holster is the reigning champion)

Whipped Cream on Hot Chocolate V.S. Marshmallows on Hot Chocolate (the correct answer is both)

jack likes routines; it helps to keep him on track, to keep him moving forward, taking great strides towards improving himself in ways he never would’ve imagined occurring so much as a year ago. much like he couldn’t imagine bitty – right here, right now, in his bed while he takes his early morning shower – like this, not a year ago. it helps him to breathe, comforted by the steadiness and sureness of it all.

eric, on the other hand, likes routines less than his boyfriend; he’s aware there’s a reason to have them in place, and they do help, but that doesn’t mean he has to like them (much less stick to them when he’s procrastinating like the champ he is at that, as displayed for all to see on his twitter), and he certainly doesn’t prevent jack from having his. he can hear jack in the shower now, a sleepy smile on his face as he keeps half of it pressed against the older man’s pillow, inhaling the scent he’s become accustomed to over the past months, comforted by it and the sounds that come from the bathroom.

okay, so maybe he doesn’t dislike routines as much as he used to.eric can feel his eyelids dropping shut again, the steady and even thrum of the shower through the thin bedroom wall lulling him back to sleep, figuring that it wouldn’t hurt to have another hour or so to sleep. he doesn’t get that far, however, not when he feels more than sees the dip of the bed and all 6'4" of his glorious providence falconer is hovering over his smaller frame to grab his attention again. the kisses against his exposed back, moving up up up over his spine, sheets pooling at his waist, making eric shiver.

this routine is something he could get used to, oh yes, and it’s one of his favorite parts of theirs together. it feels permanent and like it will remain to be a sure thing for as long as eric lives, for as long as they both live, and he has to be careful not to allow such thoughts to escape him via his mouth lest he scare jack with just how deep in this, and them, he already is. it even scares himself, sometimes, when he dwells on it for more than a few moments without something to distract from it.

“bits,” the sound makes warmth pool in his chest and eric slowly rolls onto his side, then his back, freeing his arm from beneath himself in the process to reach up and cup jack’s jaw with both hands, any worries disappearing with each firm and loving kiss pressed to his lips. he pays no mind to the water droplets falling from jack’s hair to his own and his face, distracted by the french that rolls easily off of jack’s tongue to make his cheeks warm instantly. “je t'aime.”

“jack,” eric murmurs softly, his voice deeply accented as it always is when he’s first awoken, the drawl thicker until he’s more awake and aware, and jack doesn’t even know why but he loves eric all the more for it. his chest expands and, upon seeing the bleary but ultimately fond smile on his lover’s face, it feels like a swarm of butterflies are taking flight behind his rib cage where his heart is beating so, so fast. he feels light headed, but he can’t look away or even blink until eric responds, the sentiment completely mutual. “je t'aime aussi.”

they both ache, two hearts beating as one as they share one final embrace before jack has to leave for his morning run, a tender and light kiss pressed to eric’s forehead in lieu of a vocalized, “goodbye.” they’re not speaking over skype, and jack will return soon enough, so it’s not a part of this domestic routine they share together. what is a part of it, however, is eric getting out of bed so he can make them breakfast shortly before jack returns.

perhaps this routine can be an exception to the rule, after all.
