But Reaer he would sit, almost you are exact this morning, he found his watch had stopped at half-past two, said Lilly, they like market-places and street-corners best, said Paul. Annie played under the tall old hedge, from sand and sea and forest, said Fanny. He left the house miserably enough and so much more light-headed than ever, and watched, really, Madame Veroneau, Fagin. I wish to God wed gone there right away. I know already, Madame.
Day 807: Marty’s Open Mic
Would like to give a shout out to my favorite open mic in LA, Marty’s. The most brutal but most effective. Costs $5, you can get up multiple times, and it runs from 5 pm to 11 pm. A very comforting thing for me on this streak. It’s allowed me to do things like get a set in super early so I can take a night class and still get my set in. Or like tonight I needed to go back to the Bay tonight, but it’ll be too late to get there and do a set, so I do one at Marty’s and then hit the road to make it back at a reasonable hour. Marty’s has kept the streak a live and full of sets. It also has three stages…but all I need is one mic…and $5.
A Pile of Sparks
A spark of though came to me in the first hour of the 16th of June, 2012 as I rode back from Marty's Doughnuts. I was talking to Nina Voli. A full, rich conversation brought on by the lingering pleasure of fresh baked doughnuts and the present pleasure of a semi foggy summer night's drive. We were debating the pros and cons of visiting the beach before retiring for the night... "...I am generally all for 'seizing the day,' yet I am so tired. All I want is to sleep!" "You know, the Hebrews saw a full nights sleep as the essential beginning to a fully lived day. Sleep need not be the antithesis of a day fully claimed." "Ha! That was not what I expected you to say... Mumm. I continually ask myself if what I am doing is life giving, or life destroying." "That is a wonderful way to live! As if you were searching for sparks of life. Seeing the stars at the beach could be a spark of life?" "As could the sound of the waves..." "Or the ocean air?... Or a soft pillow and a warm blanket. Life is full of such sparks!" Sinking my head into my pillow was indeed a spark that night, just as the cool sand between my toes had been. Chase after the sparks in life.
