Lithuanian accordionist Martynas Levickis performed live with City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, featuring a mixed genre program of classical, tango, movie soundtrack, and pop music rearranged for accordion. While it took the audience to warm to the instrument and his playing, his artistry, witty commentary and novel arrangement of familiar pieces endeared the 27-year-old guest music director to the mostly local audience. He received an unexpected four ovations, prompting him to perform two encore pieces, including the melancholic Lithuanian folk song “The Dawn Is Breaking”, which prompted a burst of applause from a small but strong group of presumably Lithuanian listeners in the audience. His appearance for an autograph session elicited shrieks from his newfound fans. He’ll surely be booked for two nights next time he decides to play again in Hong Kong. #ccohk #martynaslevickis #hkcityhallconcerthall #accordionmusic #lithuaniansoverseas #lithuania100 (at Hong Kong City Hall)
