Awwww YAAAAY THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I do my best to stay optimistic and hopeful about Mazume, because despite all the cards on the table, there is so much room for this to stay in our court! We’ve been given a manga that can go either way and that’s a GIFT! We don’t have to fear which cliche this is going to take on, so it’s really easy for me, I think, to stay optimistic and hopeful, and I just hope all Mazume shippers can feel that way! <3 So I’m happy to inspire your hope!
As for my expectations? Hmmmm! No one has asked me this yet, but I’ve been thinking about it! I think we will probably start to see a little more Shishio again, even if it’s just glimpses of how he’s handling the news of Mamura and Suzume’s relationship being real. I’m not sure how very significant these will be, initially, though. It almost seems like it’d be too much for a Suzume and Shishio confrontation any time soon - it’d be very overwhelming and counter-productive to Suzume’s attempted relationship with Mamura, which I believe Yamamori-sensei is intending to explore.
I suppose there ARE the possibilities that Suzume would
breeze through the conversation with Shishio and act like she’s not bothered
be very honest with him both in that she’s not over him but she’s trying to move on
I guess I feel like that’s such a wild card to me, because while I feel in my heart that Shishio wouldn’t go back on his word, the fact that we are being reminded he does, indeed, still care about Suzume makes me second guess everything. Would he still be able to accept his feelings for her but refuse her so that she can live a more peaceful life and attempt a more peaceful relationship? (I really like to think so, because that’s the Shishio we have been presented so far, but like I said, what a wild card!)
Anyway, I still feel like that would be incredibly overwhelming right away, especially when Yamamori-sensei seems to really be trying to craft this blossoming relationship. She wouldn’t put us through so much fluttery hearts just to crash everything with a wildly frantic Suzume suddenly more confused than ever, surely?
I do think maybe we might start getting more reveals about Mamura - things about who he is, what he does, what he enjoys, etc etc. I feel like the fact that we were introduced for the first time ever to music he listens to combined with that scene in which Suzume told him he was acting out of character are little reveals that we are going to get more and more about who he is under his shell. The way Suzume marveled at him punched me in the gut in a really beautiful way!!!!! And I feel like it just means we’re going to get to see more glimpses about how on the outside he has all these walls but on the inside he’s actually a really soft boy.
(Which isn’t incredibly surprising; it’s alluded that even though he said he doesn’t like girls because he found them annoying, he probably suffered some issues due to his mother leaving that maybe left him very insecure and closed off. Combine that with growing up in a household where they probably don’t share their feelings often, they likely keep everything pent up inside, and you have a boy who is not good at putting himself out on the line, who probably feels insecure, who is very shy, who is introverted. It makes for a soft boy with a hard shell trying to protect himself, which makes the fact that he’s opening up his heart this way and letting Suzume in even MORE exciting.)
I don’t know when it will happen, perhaps not necessarily in the next chapter, but I think Suzume will reveal to Yukichi sometime that she’s dating Mamura, and maybe they’ll meet! Well, “meet”, seeing as Yukichi knows Mamura already, but they can meet as “Suzume’s boyfriend”. I like to hope that she’ll try making him lunch! And hopefully we get a date sometime soon! I think the next chapter will probably follow this progressive narration, though. I hope we eventually get some kind of brief time lapse, too, because these last few chapters have all been within the same time frame, so it’d be great to see fumbling Mazume and give them a little lapse and see how they’ve come further.
I definitely think maybe something to do with Shishio, though. I know it’s not ideal for Shizume shippers, but I really want to see Shishio meeting someone his age and being able to move on, as well, but I’m not sure how likely that is to happen - especially with Shishio’s frantic reaction to Suzume dating Mamura for real. I can’t see Yamamori-sensei leaving him just to suffer, though, even if he would suffer believing that letting her be is the right thing to do?
But I also think we’re going to see more fumbling Suzume and Mamura trying to navigate this friends to dating scene. Mamura trying to pace himself and Suzume trying to learn to read him and hopefully some revelations about Mamura and the two of them getting to know each other even better!
I know I don’t have a lot of CONCRETE ideas and definitely mostly much more hope, but I hope this is good for you! :D Their new relationship stage is probably going to fast become one of my favorite things and I’m okay with it taking some time so long as they get to bumble and find their footing and be sweet and caring. The way Suzume was watching Mamura, like she was marveling over this person and how he still has so much to show her leaves me really, really anticipating more of that! :’3
