Yuuri and Wolf's relationship green flags

As I am not a professional, I'm going to use what lead researchers in this field say. You can visit their website, here . You can read more about each point on their website.

I will quote from canon material, state chapters and give context. The order of points is the same as found on their website, rather than chronological order. Many quotes contain several of these green flags, but will only be quoted once.

Example: 1 - Novel 1. ch.9 - In Danger

“Don’t listen to him!”

Wolfram’s voice sounded hoarse as he shouted. The uneasiness made my shoulders tremble.

“Ah, huh, you could talk?!”

“Don’t listen to that guy! He’s…”

It wasn’t just my shoulders, but my arms were wrapped around his waist and his entire body was trembling. As he turned his head to face forward I could see beads of perspiration forming at the nape of his neck.

“That man, he betrayed us… He’ll try, to bring you, into his group, too.”

“Wolfram, if it hurts then don’t talk.”

(…)

“From the looks of it, they’re not planning on killing you. It’ll be troublesome if you get hurt trying to resist. Go with Adelbert for now.”

“But, you and everyone…”

“Don’t worry about us.”

I take in his words. If I leave them behind, what will happen to them?

Wolfram whispers briefly again.

“Hurry and go, Yuuri!”

Situation: In an emergency situation, Yuuri has the emotional intelligence to clearly communicate and understand what Wolfram is saying. Even though they've only barely met, Yuuri trusts him.

Example: 2 -Novel 2. ch.4-

Even though Wolfram could not have guessed at my feelings, his hand falls on mine. We huddle together in the cramped space of the too-small-to-be-called-a-walk-in closet, shivering.

No, I’m the only one who’s shivering.

Wolfram is a soldier, after all. Even if he’s not used to playing such a dangerous game of hide-and-seek, it can’t be his first time.

“…Are you okay, Yuuri?”

“O-of course I am!”

I grip the hand touching mine, closing my eyes, and hang my head.

“Sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

He’s not laughing at me, is he?

It’s just…it’s not just that I’m frightened, not even that I’m scared stiff—it’s this silence, this tension, that is unbearably painful…

My roommate seems to read my mind. He whispers, “Like Conrart said, don’t do anything rash if we’re found. They’re not going to kill you if you don’t resist, 'cause you’ve got such good looks.”

“Then you’d better not do anything either. You’re several times cuter than me. No one would kill someone as pretty as you.”

“No way. I am a warrior of the Mazoku; if I don’t fight, I can’t be allowed to live.”

“That’s stupid.”

“Shush!”

“Wolfram! Don’t, there’re too many of them!” “Shut up!” “I’m begging you, Wolf! Stop it…that’s an order!” He freezes and without looking at me allows the sword to drop. (…after getting caught…)

“I hear you’re on your honeymoon, an’ want to be sold together.” Unwinding his turban, Wolfram asks me, “Honeymoon?” “Don’t know anything about it,” I reply from my position on the floor, not yet recovered from the shock of the sailor uniforms.

Situation: Wolfram's hands brush Yuuri, and he grabs it. Wolf understands that Yuuri is upset, lets him hold his hand , doesn't make a big deal about it. Interestingly, this is also Yuuri's first ever order, saving Wolf's life. He sees Wolfram's going to try to protect him, but he protects Wolf instead.

(3)------------------- Example 3: Novel 2. ch.7 - Understanding Wolf's feelings - Yuuri POV

“Okay, then why don’t I dump you? 'I’m sorry, let’s call it quits?’” “Don’t you dare! It would be a blow to my self-respect!” “Oh, oh riiight, then why don’t you reject me? 'I refuse your proposal.’ I think my pride would be able to handle it just fine. I was the one in the wrong, so no help for it.” “I can’t do that!” “Why not? Is there some kind of rule about that? Some sort of religious reason?” “Shut up!” Wolfram stands straight up and opens the corner door without another word. “Aaah, Wolf! I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I was wrong! I’m apologizing, so don’t lock yourself up in the closet!”

Situation: Yuuri gives Wolf an 'out' for their engagement. Wolf refuses and it's understood, that Yuuri gets that Wolf likes him back, which is why "he takes back his words and apologizes". Other than the comedic effect of the 'closet', Yuuri 'gets' that Wolf doesn't want this engagement to end because he likes him back.

Example 4: Novel 4. ch.9 - Yuuri and Wolf's POV , they're in sync

When I had to part ways with Greta I was wailing in front of everyone, but no one laughed at me. Anyway, Hyscliff promised that he’d make her visit after a month. Now that I think about it, it’s been less than ten days since that child appeared before me. When I turned to comment on the fact that it hasn’t really been long enough for me to properly develop the emotions of a parent, I found Wolfram fiercely crying.

Situation: They're both so in sync that despite neither having known Greta that long, they both have the same dad-feelings for her. This is the same novel where Wolfram in chapter 4 was so connected to Yuuri that he knew what he was saying and replied, despite not being in the same place.

Example 5: Novel 10, Chapter 2 - Yuuri's POV

Although all that happened more than ten days ago, but just thinking about the situation back then still makes my heart ache, and a certain spot deep in my mind heat up.

The hands that were gripping mine so tightly. Loosening with the indescribable sound of a stick plunging into the sand, and the body next to me falling slowly.

Wolfram with an arrow sticking out of his chest, fell backwards onto the deck, engulfed in flames.

When I grabbed the middle part, it felt exceptionally cold.

“What’s the matter? Are you not feeling well? Didn’t you say you don’t get seasick?”

“Relax, relax, I’m fine. I was just feeling a little breathless, that’s all.”

Situation: Remembering what happened to Wolf when he thought he was dead makes him sick.

Example 1 : Novel 4, chapter -Wolf's dream connecting to Yuuri in RL-

“I’m against H (sex) without love! Here, put this on!”

Trying to hide my embarrassment in vigorous movement, I rip off my down jacket. It’s a lot heavier than a ‘Made in Modern Japan’ version, but the warmth is the same.

“… Thank you.”

Around that time, Wolfram was having a dream.

Yuuri screamed, “I’m against H (sex) without love!” and he replied with “If you’re talking about love, it’s right here,” but in his mind he was thinking, ‘what does he mean, by H?’’

His snore was ‘ghghpihh-ghghpihh’ as always.

Have a nice dream.

Situation: In this scene, the author shows the characters being so connected they don't even need to be in the same place to know what the other is going through. Overlaps with 1- empathy.

Example 2: Novel 5 chapter 2

“What happened?”

“It’s impossible for a child to explain,” Wolfram said with a despondent expression as he swung the now useless torch around with pointless movements.

“Then who else should I ask?”

“But, for a child-”

“I can tell you,” Greta says decisively, cutting Wolfram off.

(…)Handing off the torch, Wolfram pulled the child’s shoulders close

Situation: When Gwendal wants to ask Greta about what happened to Yuuri, Wolf immediately gets defensive. Even though he wants to know too, he instinctively wants to shelter Greta from having to recall something traumatic.

(3)------------------- Example 3: Novel 7, Chapter 11- Wolf's POV

Wolfram linked his arm round my neck and gazed at me, “Yuuri, listen to me carefully! This is just my personal opinion, but I don’t think we should give up the competition for this type of woman. Just let Josak continue to do his best! What do you think?”

“….this is your way of doing things…”

“That’s right, this is what I think we should do. Anyway you’re really a henachoko, you should listen to what I said.”

I was apologizing to someone in my mind, even if it’s just this once, please allow me to succumb to the evil side who is threatening us. I think I should be apologizing to the gods who represent the spirit of sportsmanship. I linked my own arm round Wolfram’s neck, and drawing him closer to myself, I apologized to him too,

“I’m sorry, I’m always this much of a henachoko, I really am quite embarrassed as well, especially since you managed to gain one point despite the risk of injuries. I’ll probably cause all your efforts to go to waste.”

Wolfram sighed loudly and continued in a dramatic tone, “That’s perfectly correct.”

“This is all because you’re too much of a henachoko. But although I’m perfectly aware of that, I’m still willing to follow you, do you know why that is?”

“I don’t know.”

Lord Von Bielefeld undid a button in front of his chest, his emerald green eyes seemed even brighter against the reflection of the white snow.

“Wrack your brains and think about it before I give up and dump you.”

Situation: We can see here Wolf adapting some more to Yuuri's way. This overlaps with 3- communication (very clear about the intentions and resolution)

(3)------------------- Example 3: Novel 8. ch.5 -Both being awesome to each other

Wolfram, likely having feelings the most similar to mine out of everyone else here, was staring me straight in the face. He slowly unclenches his fists, spreads his fingers and folds his arms with deliberate movements. Standing with his back slightly arched, his left foot is pointing toward Lord Weller. I’m kind of relentless with this, but is his back alright?

(…) “Is it okay for the spoils of that being Conrart who disappeared?”

“But Wolf…”

“I feel the same.”

Of course he feels the same. His beloved brother is serving the person in power of an enemy country. It’s probably painful that he’s not trying to come back. If he could, as a little brother he would probably like to use the power of the victor to drag him back home even by force.

“But that’s not our right. It’s the right of the man whose mask you’re wearing.”

No, to say it more precisely, it is the right of those who live in Caloria and love it.

“If you’re saying that getting the box is for Conrart, then that’s a misunderstanding on your part. Don’t forget whose victory this is. Don’t forget who you are.”

That’s right. If I decided to play the part of someone else, I have to play it perfectly until the curtain comes down. The laurels that Norman Gilbit has gained belong to the people of Caloria. If I want honor, it is for his country. If I want the box, it has to be for the people.

Situation: Yuuri saying that Wolf and him feel the same. Still worrying about Wolf's back. Yuuri is fighting on behalf of Caloria, and Wolf reminds him that. Just gorgeous interaction, of really in sync partners.

(4)------------------- Example 4: Novel 16, Chapter 7 - Yuuri's POV Family

Even if that little skit is so unique, I’m still touched to tears. If I were to find myself in that position in the near future, what should I do? At that time, the fathers would be Wolf and me, and the daughter would be Greta.

Thinking that, I immediately understand Gwendal’s feelings deeply.

Situation: And here is Yuuri, in the regular novels, novel 16 talking about Wolf and him both being Greta's daddies, and getting emotional thinking about entrusting Greta to the person she'd marry in the future. This is not just side stories, but it's in the canon. Yuuri isn't Greta's only dad, both Wolf and him are.

3- Effective and Respectful Communication

Before I start this section, YES, they need work on their communication. But also, they are both teens . Also, it gets better, keep reading.

Example 1: Novel 2, Chapter 3

"I'll go with you tomorrow."

"Huh?"

He can't give me any real help even if he comes with me. Even Conrad, who could make short work of any sword master, couldn't move a finger to help me. But Wolfram is indifferent to my private waffling. He folds his arms and says rather happily, "Since you're a total wimp."

"Stop calling me a wimp!"

Ah.

The selfish prince with the angelic features and clear emerald eyes that remind you of the bottom of a lake. Abbreviate half-ironically, and you get selfish Pooh.

Wolfram always goes right to the point. He throws himself straight into any challenge.

He bores into both my mitt and my chest, but it's kinder and gentler than a lie.

"What? What are you grinning about?"

"…I was just thinking, it's been a while."

"What has?"

"You calling me a wimp."

"That's because you left the country. You left your people and your land to the care of others. You have no sense or consciousness of being a king. What's wrong with calling a wimp a wimp?"

"Nothing."

That's right, I'm just a wimp anyway, so it's not like I'm going to give up after making just one mistake.

The stain on the ceiling boards looks kinda like Melgib—it's actually a bit cute.

"That's true, huh. A new Prior Maou like me—I was never perfect anyway. The first time I went up to the batter's box in my first match, I took three good strikes—you never know how to attack a problem when you don't know anything about its character and type."

In the end, I got an infield hit.

But that's it.

"Wolf."

"What?"

I kick up my feet vigorously and use the reverse swing to leverage myself from the mattress.

"Thanks."

"For what?"

"I have no idea what for, but come with me anyway."

Situation: We know Wolf uses 'wimp/novice/henachoko' as a pet name for Yuuri. Here we can see that it actually relaxes Yuuri when Wolf uses it. Makes him feel it's all going to be okay. Furthermore, despite the bickering , Yuuri is once again wanting Wolf to come with to retrieve Morgif (although he will eventually go by himself). This conversation also contains points 1- emotional intelligence, 2- Trustworthiness and loyalty, 5, vulnerability. 6. Adaptability, 8 affection. 11- Supportive Nature and encouragement.

Example 2 : Gaiden 1- Taming of the Bear 1

“Yuuri, you idiot (baka)! Duck! Get down on the floor!”

“Shut up. The one who says idiot is the real idiot (baka)… eh!?”

Situation: I think this is a good starting point to portray that they're teens. Also, they are about to get killed by a large Mickey hand. But also the word translated as 'idiot' is 'baka'. One of the softest balls you can throw at someone. But I repeat, still teens, still getting to know each other.

Example 3: Novel 9, Chapter 3- Wolf's POV

“Then should you mess things up, are you mentally prepared to disembowel yourself a punishment?”

Wow, just thinking about it makes me pale, eeeek—it sounds even more painful than seppuku.

“If you obtain everyone’s approval here and take upon yourself the duty of heading to Shou Shimaron, that is equal to a royal decree—in other words, you will be sent there as the representative of the Shin Makoku under His Majesty the Maou’s name. If for some small reason you fail, the responsibility lies not only on you, but also on the Maou, maybe even the country. It’s not something you can shake off by regretting or apologizing, do you have the resolve to take up this responsibility with your life?”

Wolfram bites his beautiful lips, but then he immediately clenches his fist. Although he looks like a weak bishounen, he’s actually a passionate man. I just discovered that today.

“From the day I swore my oath to the king, I’ve been prepared mentally for that.”

The oldest brother’s expression looks even more painful. Unsurprisingly, because there’s no way Gwen would send his beloved youngest brother somewhere dangerous. But I was defeated by Lord von Bielefeld’s words. The decision this bad-tempered stubborn angel made puts his life on the line, and he even said he’s mentally prepared for it.

He said, “From the day I swore my oath to the king.”

Which king?

I instinctively swallow. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth, which has suddenly gone dry.

It’s me!

Wolf is talking about us.

Situation: It's a nice contrast between the way he talks in Gaiden 1, and here. You can see in novel 7 and 8, especially after the 'returned slap' and Yuuri almost dying that he's matured quite a bit.

Example 4: Novel 10. ch.7- Remembering - Yuuri's POV

My right arm supporting my weight is a little painful, though. Maybe I strained a tendon, everything from the nerves in the muscles outside to the joints on my pinky is numb.

“My arm hurts, if only Wolfram or Gisela were here now~”

“Can’t you heal it yourself? Young Master, isn’t your maryoku really strong?”

“I heard it was dangerous to use maryoku on human lands, and we’re approaching the country of the shinzoku no less! Murata and Wolf keep telling me again and again ‘don’t push yourself’, I’m sick and tired of hearing it.”

Situation: Yuuri remembers all the times Wolf has told him not to be reckless and acts accordingly.

Example 5: Novel 14. chapter3- Solving conflicts - Both POVs

“Eh?”

“Didn’t you hear me? It’s because you like using majutsu so much, that’s why I told you not to get near me.”

No matter how I ask, the answer is the same. But it’s completely different from the reason I cracked my head to come up with.

“…So you’re not mad at me?”

His breathing is very fast.

“Of course I’m mad. Who asked you to be so rash?”

“And I thought you hated me…”

“Me, hate you?”

Helplessly, Wolfram can’t help but raise his tone at the end, so it feels about like “Me, hate you~~?”

“Could someone who hated the king possibly chase him to the ends of the earth? …” (…)

Situation: After accidentally stabbing one another, they clear the air, Yuuri imagined Wolf hated him, Wolf clarifies that… of course that's not the case. Even in an emergency situation, where Yuuri is blind due to the effects of the tunnel, they can still talk to one another. Notice how there's no more baka, or henachoko. They simply talk.

Example 6: Novel 14. chapter 7- Clarifying - Both POVs

“Thank goodness I still have you beside me.”

“You’re being so honest about your feelings it’s sickening.”

“I don’t even have the strength to pretend anymore.”

Situation: In this scene Yuuri is too tired to pretend he doesn't want to be in bed being comforted by Wolfram. He's finally expressing his feelings for him. Wolfram is trying to keep it light and teases him. But he doubles down.

4- Trustworthiness and Loyalty

Example 1: Gaiden 1- The taming of the bear(1) - Yuuri POV, trusting Wolf.

“Even if it isn’t anything bad, if Günter were around this would have ended before it even started. You better be thankful for my generosity of going along with this childish plan without even telling that old, overprotective guardian of yours.”

“Yeah, but this is 80% your fault anyway.”

It was hard for me to criticize him aloud when I was standing there in a complete set of borrowed equipment.

Situation: Yuuri trusts Wolf with his 'adventuring' and knows he'll keep him safe. Just like he did in novel 1, when Adalbert took him hostage. Or novel 2, when the pirates were gonna get him and he tried defending him. He'll do it again in novel 9, when he takes Wolf to Small Shimaron.

Example 2: Novel 7, chapter 10 - Wolfram entrusting the sheath of his sword to Yuuri

“This is for your majesty.”

“What….”

“Don’t mind me, it’s just my personal way of concentrating.”

(…)”(…)And also, can’t you put down that sheath?”

“….no, I’m fine with holding it.”

I wasn’t going to put something Wolfram had told me to hold for him on the ground, I could only watch his silhouette from behind as he left.

Situation: This is a 'medieval story', where Wolfram ritualitically gives the sheath of his sword to Yuuri. This is one of those 'loyalty above all' moments written very dramatically.

(3)------------------- Example 3: Novel 7, chapter 10 - Yuuri helping Wolf out

“How come you fell down?! Are you alright?”

Josak and I hurriedly ran out and helped Wolfram up. Poor Wolfram seemed unable to walk on his own and was even gazing blankly into the sky while muttering, “….This…this is so embarrassing…”

“Relax, don’t worry, there’s really nothing to be ashamed of! We’ll pretend that we didn’t see that last scene. Your handsome and dashing appearance must have fatally charmed so many girls….”

“Getting noticed by human females is nothing to be happy about!”

Situation: It's a trait of this novel to break the seriousness with jokes. In this case, Yuuri tries to help out Wolf in his moment of shame.

(4)------------------- Example 4: Novel 9, chapter 5- Yuuri's POV

“But, Wolf… I promise you, I won’t leave your side halfway through, this much I can guarantee.”

“Right.”

“So let me go.”

“What’s the point of you telling me?”

Wolf lifts his chin as he speaks, looking like a patriarch lecturing the disappointing son.

“But don’t forget, Yuuri, you’re the Maou, the king of the Shin Makoku. You want to fix all the injustices in the world, fine, but you can’t forget your country and people.”

“I never forgot.”

Never once have I thought myself capable of solving all the problems in the world. Because even if I have strange and wonderful powers I never would have even dreamed back on Earth, even if I was lifted onto the throne, I still don’t think I can save anything. After all, I have absolutely no confidence in myself, to this day thinking of myself as nothing more than your average baseball kid.

Situation: Once again, Yuuri trusting Wolf will be there for him, and Wolf trusting Yuuri knows best. He voices his disagreement with Yuuri wanting to go to the very dangerous Seisakoku for this Venera they know nothing about when they save the stranded kids, but follows nonetheless. Yuuri promises to stay by his side, the situation however, does not allow him to do so.

(5)------------------- Example 5: Novel 10, chapter 4- Wolf's POV

“I’m going to save Yuuri.” “Where are you going to save him?”

(…)

Wolfram suddenly remembers the people he has always respected, murmuring the new king’s name.

To relax his stiff fingers, he grasps his right hand twice, and says,

“It doesn’t matter where! Right! It’s Seisakoku, I want to go to Seisakoku too! There’s no time to waste here! I have to save Yuuri! That guy can’t be without me.”

Situation: After being ambushed in Small Shimaron, Wolf decides that he wants to save Yuuri and head to Seisakoku.

5- Emotional Availability and Vulnerability

Example 1: Novel 5, Chapter 2 - Daddy Wolf - Wolf POV

“… It’s Lord Weller’s.” “Which means that’s Conrart’s arm?” Again, his voice was quiet and cool. Noticing that his older brother was giving him a strange look, Wolfram raised his eyebrows and asked, “Brother?” “Don’t act like me.” (…)

After remaining silent for a few breaths, Wolfram began to scream as if a dam had broken. He repeated the names of his most beloved king and his second-oldest brother that he was supposed to have hated, and he cursed the unknown enemy. Without being able to look anyone in the face, he kicked at the walls and candelabras with all his strength. That’s good. At least you should remain emotional. If not, then if in the unlikely event that we lost ‘him,’ then the citizens, the castle, and the country will not withstand it.

Situation: Wolfram shows vulnerability in front of everyone. Even though Yuuri isn't there, it's an important descriptor of him as not keeping it all bottled in.

Example 2: Novel 5, chapter 6 - When they find Yuuri alive - Wolf POV

“It’s Yuuri!” (…)

“Whether it’s abnormal or normal, that’s Yuuri. Thank goodness, he’s alive! He’s alive, right!?” Wolfram pressed the flat of his hand to his forehead to stave off the stabbing pain spreading through his sinuses. He held back his tears. “But where is this? Do you know the location?”(…)

“Shimaron of all places.”

Situation: Again, Wolfram is going through all these emotions because he thought Yuuri was dead. Yuuri will also show his emotional side when Wolf's life is in danger in novel9,chapter9.

Example 3: Novel 9, Chapter 5 - Yuuri's POV

I grip the cold white railing, staring into the black waves as I speak, not looking at Wolfram no matter what. Then I purposely release a deep breath—seems like my heart rate has gone back to normal.

“…Sorry, I get too angry too easily. My personality really is straight and forward, heh.”

“I know.”

His calmness surprises me. Did his voice always sound like this? No, rather than his voice, the way he speaks has started to become like the eldest brother.

“I feel like… I’m always showing you my bad side.”

“Really? But you took those children into consideration. That’s worth respecting.”

“Don’t compliment me. It’s only right.”

Situation: After saving Zeta and Zusha, the shinzoku twins floating in open sea, Yuuri notices Wolf being more mature, at the same time, he realizes he's still quick to anger. Yuuri points his own bad points, and Wolf reinforces Yuuri's good points. Overlaps with 3- communication, 6- growth and 11- supportiveness.

(4)------------------- Example 4: Novel 12, Chapter 7- Yuuri's POV

Faced with that terrifying trauma, I feel as though all the blood in my body has been sucked away by the ground. Someone else got shot by an arrow in front of me. Right beside me, hit by that most primitive weapon.

“…Wolf…”

No.

That’s not Wolf.

I shake my head desperately, grabbing at my hair through the hood of the cloak. Hang in there, Shibuya Yuuri! Wolfram’s not here, he can’t be shot or hurt! Don’t be afraid, the one they aimed for is Saralegui.

Situation: Yuuri's very well aware of how much he cares about Wolfram, but being without him, he tries to cheer himself up, like Wolf would were he there.

Back then Wolfram was wearing his hooded cape, and nearly died in his place. Just thinking of that moment makes me shudder in fear.

Situation: Same as before Yuuri repeatedly talks about how traumatizing seeing Wolf die was.

Example 1: Novel 4. ch.7 - Wolf healing Hube even tho he doesn't want to-

Half asleep with his eyes half open, Wolfram bites back an indiscreet yawn.

“Ya’anna heal Gegenhuber with healin’ magic, righ?”

“You’re not speaking properly.”

“Because Wolf… did you have that kind of skill?”

“I’m not as skilled as Gisela, but I do have some experience with raising people’s natural healing. There’s no way I can’t perform a technique that even the likes of you can do. Because you’re a-”

“Henachoko.”

The Pretty Boy gives a satisfied snort and repeats ‘are you asking me to heal him?’ I do so without a second’s hesitation. I don’t care if he calls me a wimp.

“All right Yuuri, watch closely. This is how you use the healing arts. Hey Gegenhuber!”

Rather than hold his hand, he grabs his wrist, roughly shakes it around and yells at him.

“You listening, you injured guy!? I don’t want to help you, but I am because Yuuri said ‘please!’ If you live any longer, thank him! (…).”

Situation: Wolf can adapt, change his ideas, and understand that this is important for Yuuri. Other examples of growth and adaptability can be found under other categories as well.

“… Hey, if it was a choice between that and your urine, which would you drink?”

Situation: Even though both of them are in danger, they still find time to joke about the terrible situation they are in.

Situation: Wolfram retorts to Conrad's joke with another joke.This time using Yuuri's catch phrase from the first four novels "we're both guys".

There’s even a bit of unease in Wolfram’s teasing.

Situation: Yuuri just put out the flames where he saved the shinzoku children using all his strength in human territory, and Wolf is by his side, helping him in this endeavor, likely very dangerous for Yuuri, but as he will say during the competition, he just wants to support Yuuri. Overlaps with 1, empathy and 11- supportiveness.

It can’t be helped because characteristics like the length of the legs is a racial feature, like height and shoulder width and body weight. Since when did I become someone who only worries about body build. Maybe, because of that day when the second pitcher said, "You, since you’re a small target, it’ll be hard to throw a ball into you”.

Even if our bodies are evenly matched, when I just glanced up, I’ve already been defeated. How can he be this beautiful! Because of them, his face emits an aura. Situation: It's in novel 9, where you really see Yuuri understanding how lucky he is to be with someone like Wolf. He still mentions his appearance, but since getting saved by Wolf and traveling with him in Caloria and Seisakoku, now he talks about his personality, and how people flock to him because of it.

Wolfram must have been waving his hand as he spoke, because I feel a breeze brush past my face. Wonderful, his movements are no different than usual, and his voice is powerful too, I can’t help but heave a sigh of relief.

Situation: This is addressing more the 'affection' part of this point. Yuuri is relieved that Wolfram's all right. The scene is reminiscent of when Wolfram gets the news that Yuuri is alive, novel 5, chapter 6.

Watching him grow up so quickly recently, I can’t help but feel panicked. If I keep assuming he’s on the same level as me, one day I will surely be left behind in the dust.

Situation: Yuuri continues to talk about Wolf's maturity, how incredible he is, how cute he looks, and now he's wondering if he can catch up.

Situation: Yuuri doesn't just mention Wolfram's 'looks' here, but also his integrity (高潔) and passionate side that could convince anyone. A long way from how he described Wolf in novel 1 or 2.

Example 1: Novel 3. ch.12 - Both POVs -Disagreement , messing up

He did actually use Wolf this time, bad Yuuri -

“I can’t go back, to my home, to earth, to Japan!” I cried angrily.

“I thought it would be just like last time, I could return through the bathroom again. But no matter what I did, nothing happened at all! I thought if I was forced into a corner, I would enter the star journey to escape from danger… But even when you pushed me into the water, still nothing happened.”

“What?”

“Wolf… why is that grimace?”

Numerous creases gathered above his nose and between his eyebrows. The ex-prince lifted his chin and pulled his shoulders back.

“You used me for this small thing?”

“It’s not a small thing! This is incredibly important for me, don’t you understand that much?”

“You are now the king of this country, you can’t run around anymore! You’ve got to stay here. Yuuri, your home is this castle! And that’s forever!”

Every time this bishounen scolded me, I would feel the numerous wounds his words caused. As hard as it was to accept, Wolfram was probably right. My diving attempts were pointless. But what other choice did I have? I had never thought that I could never see Japan again.

“You’re unbelievably dim-witted,” Wolfram groaned and brushed his wet bang back from his forehead.

His seemingly arrogant green eyes stared at me fiercely. He really does have an angel’s face, but his words draw blood with each syllable.

“You belong to this world. You cannot escape, your soul is at home here.”

Situation: Yuuri was an ass and needed to hear some harsh truths. Wolf is absolutely pissed, but I think this is a good starting point to see how much Wolf will soften up the blows in the future. This is 'main arc' Wolf where we're setting a starting point. From Caloria on, Wolf will be much softer on Yuu. Yeah, they bicker, but it's always "both ways". There's no 'one asshole', when they fuck up, they both learn and grow from that. Again, these are two teens navigating first love.

“I’m sorry, really…”

Wolf tries to step back from me, and I quickly grab his waist, pulling him to me. Hugging him tightly with my right arm, I press my left palm to his stomach—The warmth from his skin spreads over to me, a numbing pain climbing up my arm at the same time.

Situation: Yuuri's trying to heal Wolf. Wolf will scold him and not let him (because Yuuri himself is injured). Not great communication, but they won't leave each other's sides again, until the next arc.

“Huh!? I must be hearing things. There’s no way you’re trying to save what’s in that cocoon.”

“You heard right. I said ‘let’s seal up this hole’.”

“For what!? You came here to the guest housing to get rid of these things didn’t you? Despite that, your plan failed and we ended up in a dangerous situation. One less enemy is better. The chances for our survival will go up.”

“But-”

I don’t want to admit it, but this time the spoiled prince is right. In order for us to not become hors d’oeuvres for a coming of age ceremony and get out of this room alive, we need to kill each insect(?) the instant it comes out of its hard cocoon. As long as we don’t know what kind of insect will come out of the cocoon, getting rid of as many as possible beforehand is a good plan. 90 is better than 100. 11 is better than 12…

“I’ve never met a wimp quite like you.”

“Don’t call me a wimp.”

“But…”

It seems like he decided against continuing that sentence.

He tears the paper he was holding into several pieces and scoops up a huge handful of mucus and smears it over the hole. After carefully making sure there weren’t any bubbles, he keeps piling up some more. Eventually the hole is securely plugged up and the air stops leaking out.

“Yes! Even the Color Timer looks healthier! Quick thinking pays off, Wolfram… but why so suddenly…?”

“People say that wimps have five minute souls.”

“No one says that.”

The two of us look away from each other to hide our embarrassed grins.

Situation: Even in a terribly dangerous situation, Wolfram is able to change his mind, and understand where Yuuri is coming from. Both of them are compassionate towards one another and the animals. This quote overlaps with points (11 ) supportiveness, 5- Emotional Availability and Vulnerability and 6- Growth Mindset and Adaptability. This one scene has them understanding each other without too many words.

“I know.”

I must look really miserable. He’s not even getting mad that I’m talking about the brother he doesn’t like and he’s put an arm around my shoulders.

“He’s not dead. He’s definitely not dead, but…”

But he’s not here or anywhere. Lord Weller isn’t coming back.

“You can cry as much as you want. Gurrier, Gisela and I are all here. You can cry as much as you want any time now.”

“… Damn it!”

I force myself to pull away and show him my injury from getting caught on a jagged rock.

“Look at this, you can see the flesh… It’s bleeding so much… And then this is where you grabbed me and pulled me up. It’s all swollen and hot. I might have sprained my wrist. Worst case, it might even be broken. What do I do? Damn… it hurts… it really hurts. It’s so ridiculously painful there are tears in my eyes… How stupid am I?”

“You’re not stupid. The foolish one is Conrart.”

Why are you only saying things like that to me? Things that just make me hurt even more.

Things that just make me want to cry out and sob.

“But even if you know it’s foolish, there are times you have to do it anyway. Even you’re like that, right? You’ve always done things like that.”

“Well sorry for being a fool.”

Situation: Obviously both of them are grieving Conrad at this point, but they're still talking and opening up in a kind, compassionate way. Overlaps with 6- communication and 11- supportive nature.

Example 3: Novel 16 In Greta's Mirror- Yuuri's POV

“It’s a secret from Wolf.” “Yeah, a secret from Wolf.” Greta didn’t know whether or not the completed picture actually resembled her mother. That wasn’t because Greta was forgetting her mother’s face; it was definitely because Wolfram’s artistic style was so incredibly abstract that there was no distinction between a person and a tanuki. Nevertheless she hung the portrait in her room, and spoke to it every morning without fail. But ever after that, Greta wished for a portrait or photograph of her mother.

And every time she used the tiny mirror, she remembered.

Situation: Even though both Yuuri and Greta know that Wolf's paintings aren't what they hope it to be, they don't say anything mean to Wolf and accept him as he is. Yuuri encourages Greta to be kind to her other dad, while giving her a mirror as a way to remember her mom.

Example 1: Novel 6, Chapter 11- Both POVs

I don’t even have enough strength left to talk much less ask what’s important about him. With the next small tremor, I’ll definitely fall. I have no feeling left in my fingers at all and after losing focus for a split second, my left hand slips off. My one arm holding on becomes three fingers, two fingers, and lastly my middle finger…

My awareness comes back with a shock like my shoulder is being dislocated. Pale fingers and a sleeve in a familiar color were solidly grasping my right wrist.

“I finally caught you.”

“… Wolf… why are you here..?”

Lord Wolfram von Bielefelt gives a bitter laugh as his beautiful face twists into a grimace. For a moment, I see traces of his eldest brother and despite the state of emergency I’m in, I feel a sense of admiration.

“You’re a flirt and a cheat so I secretly stuck a transmitter on you so I can chase after you anywhere in the world. Hey, it’s no good with just one hand. Grab on with both of them.”

“But with your weight… you won’t be able to pull me up. If things go wrong, you might even-!”

“If that happens…”

Wolfram grabs a hold of my sweaty wrist with both hands as it starts to slip and gives me a stern and manly smile.

“I’ll fall with you.”

Something must have happened while I was away because this is the first time I’ve seen such an expression on his face.

“Trust me.”

Situation: This is one of many scenes where they both trust and support each other, I've simply put some of the other scenes as examples of other points. Up until this point they had always supported, understood and helped each other.

“And then Seisakoku, is here.”

He grabs my right hand and brings it to the bottom of the map—Wolfram knows I’m not used to reading the words. The diamond-shaped land labeled Seisakoku is, in Earth terms, situated rather to the south, not too far away from the Antartic.

Situation: Wolf helps Yuuri out without being asked.

I raise the head I was resting on Wolfram’s chest and try to break free from his grasp. If I can’t stand, I’ll walk over there on my knees or crawl there. I must stop this battle before either one of them gets hurt.

“If they fight seriously,” Wolfram notices what I’m trying to do, supporting me with both hands as he says, “Then they’ll probably be evenly matched or the one at a disadvantage will be Conrart.”

Situation: Wolf helping Yuuri break up the fight between Gunter and Conrad.

"I’ve been in a series of emergency situations since Small Shimaron, and I didn’t have any friends during the trip. Situation: The two people with him are Josak and Conrad, but Yuuri can't feel at ease. In fact, he doesn't name anyone else. Only Wolf can make him feel safe and comfort him.

Not sure how to quote here. Both Yuuri and Wolf have their own friends and hobbies. They share a life, but are surrounded by people who love them individually. Wolf doesn't try to isolate Yuuri, but does set some boundaries.

Example 1: Wolf encouraging Yuuri to have fun without him, and Yuuri wanting to stay with Wolf

“Yuuri.”

“Mm?”

“If you want to, go over there and have some fun.”

(…)

I unconsciously shake my head.

“…I don’t want to ruin their fun, and besides…”

Suddenly there are cheers, followed by enthusiastic applause—maybe someone’s having a drinking match. At that moment, even the corners of my lips lift naturally. Let’s just hope that no one collapses due to acute alcohol poisoning.

“Besides, it’s not like I’m standing alone right now.”

“Hmph, you finally have some awareness as a leader?”

I can hear the purposely suppressed joy in his voice.

“It depends on the time and location, Wolf. Time and location.”

Situation: They've been stuck in a room for 14 days , but still Yuuri would rather be with Wolf than anyone else.

Wolfram roughly grabs my wrist and says simply, “Don’t worry so much, just go! And then you must return safely… Gurrier!”

Just in case, he even tugs at the thing in his hand several times, replying as he tests its strength, “Here!”

“Protect Yuuri properly.”

Situation: He trusts Yuuri to be protected by others . Let's him go without him to keep him safe.

Example 3: Novel 10,- story: "Life With a Daughter is Really Great"

“But still—I’m slightly a bit relieved now.”

“Relieved?”

“To know that you have friends of your own age too. Ah, even if it’s a different age group, that’s fine too! Because you look so young yet you’re cooped up in the castle all the time, so I was worried that maybe you didn’t have friends. You should be the one to initialize old boys gatherings sometimes, and meet up with your friends from your student days.”

“Thanks for being a busybody!”

Situation: Yuuri's glad Wolf's been talking with some friends. Since they're never mentioned in the novels, this was a good way to make it known that Wolf does in fact have friends and they go out. The tone of the story, sounds more pre-Caloria, but I don't have that information. In novel 1- it's just an extra story.

And besides, I hadn’t planned to return yet, it was Wolfram beside me that pushed us into the sea from the back, so even if it wasn’t of our own volition, in the end we still fell down towards the blue-black whirlpool.

Just as Wolfram said, I know he did it completely out of kindness. He probably wishes I can return to Earth and sleep peacefully, eat Mom’s cooking, then recharge and rest up properly before returning to Shin Makoku. But in the end…

“This is very obviously not Japan.”

Situation: Yuuri realizes that Wolf is trying to help him out. And even though he wants to be with Yuuri, he sets him free.

I pounce, trying to grab it from Wolfram, and land on top of him. This is the exact moment when— “Listen to this, Young Master…oops.” “…” “Am I interrupting your fun, by any chance?” Josak closes the door again. “No, no, wait! We weren’t having fun, we were not having any fun of any kind, you’re taking it the wrong way! This is a massive, majorly massive misunder—ow!” I’ve bitten my tongue. “My my, Young Masters, it’s the middle of the day, so if you’re going to have a dalliance, you should at least lock the door. You really shouldn’t tempt your elders like this,” Josak teases in the voice he uses when disguised as a woman, and enters the room.

Yuuri saving Wolf

I've been asked this before, but Yuuri absolutely saves Wolf's butt all over the main arc. Example: 1 - Novel 1- Chapter 9- Saves Wolf from Adalbert

As I said the "way!" at the end I clapped the foot of my dazed ally with all my strength. Though the soldier didn't wake up, his spur struck the horse's stomach, and with a neigh the gray horse broke into a run. Lured by the first horse, the others begin running, too. Flinching, they were frozen in place and with my kick dashed off.

At once the sound of hooves filled the air all around as several horse-riders, both ally and enemy, ran off into the woods in disorder. As Wolfram's chestnut horse was swallowed up in the forest, only Adelbert and I were left.

"…Why did you do that?"

"Wolfram chose one last person. That person was me; only you didn't notice."

Situation: When Wolfram was frozen by Adalbert's magic, he told Yuuri to go with Adalbert so he'd be safe. But Yuuri risks it and saves Wolfram by making the horses run

Situation: Although Wolfram was ready to fight, Yuuri issues his first order as a king and commands him not to. Takes the safe approach, although both of them would be now prisoners.

"A sand bear!"

A sand bear?! Everything became fuzzy around me, and the whole world turned into the color of gold and orange. Here and there helmets, or a forearm, came into my sight. We sank deeper and deeper into the smooth sand. There was no escape. We were being inevitably sucked in.

"Wh… what happens?! How can this be?!"

When I opened my mouth, sand immediately filled between my teeth. I tried to hold Wolfram back by the hem of his robe, but his arms, legs, hands and finally even his face disappeared. I could barely breathe.

What kind of animal could this be?! In my field of vision, which was becoming blurred, I could see a huge two-toned panda moved his arms up and down at the center of a whirling mass of sand.

Situation: although both are falling into the pit, Yuuri doesn't let go of Wolf risking his own life to save him.Then, later, same chapter, novel 3, chapter 2

"You said you'll follow my catcher's signs. Then I order you to save Wolfram. Please! I'm fine; you have no reason to worry about me. After all I still have a strong guard here."

Conrad looked surprised and shifted his eyes back and forth between me and Gwendal

"An order?" He finally turned to Gwendal and murmured. "Okay. But you take care of him!"

Situation: Yuuri's second order as a king is to risk Conrad's life to save Wolf after risking his own, and being denied by the brothers going himself.

Wolfram always goes right to the point. He throws himself straight into any challenge.

He bores into both my mitt and my chest, but it's kinder and gentler than a lie.

"What? What are you grinning about?"

"…I was just thinking, it's been a while."

"What has?"

"You calling me a wimp."

"That's because you left the country. You left your people and your land to the care of others. You have no sense or consciousness of being a king. What's wrong with calling a wimp a wimp?"

That's right, I'm just a wimp anyway, so it's not like I'm going to give up after making just one mistake.

The stain on the ceiling boards looks kinda like Melgib—it's actually a bit cute.

I've been asked this before, but Yuuri absolutely saves Wolf's butt all over the main arc. Example: 1 - Novel 1- Chapter 9- Saves Wolf from Adalbert

"…Why did you do that?"

"Wolfram chose one last person. That person was me; only you didn't notice."

Situation: When Wolfram was frozen by Adalbert's magic, he told Yuuri to go with Adalbert so he'd be safe. But Yuuri risks it and saves Wolfram by making the horses run
