AAAAAH OKAY i'm gonna put this under a read more because it might get a little long
i remember my friend @iopiu introduced me to dangan ronpa and i read it all in one night. on a school night. and i got so hooked on it that
i went to look up "dangan ronpa oc" as a tag on tumblr bc i love fandom ocs when done right (which is basically all of doubt and more)
and lo and behold i found doubt academy 1!!!
the game looked so fun and interesting because you weren't just rping, you were literally playing the game and i wanted in so...i was like welp time to get my brain crankin a little bit
i think at the time i was really in love with an orihime picture/icon from dreamwidth of some sort, so i wanted to make tomiko's hair orange. i got tomiko's name because i remember my mom used to work at a japanese wedding company and one of her coworker's names was tomiko and she was so nice
kawasaki came from kurosaki. ichigo kurosaki. yeaaaah i read bleach can u tell
and then i remember "shsl voice actress" was one of the first titles to come to mind. i didn't want to use something i'd already seen on tumblr, and back then i don't think there were many dangan ronpa ocs so i hadn't heard of a shsl seiyuu yet sooo i just sort of. gave that title to her because i am a fan of japanese voice actors! and i liked the concept of my oc being an idol, except not really an idol? haha
her personality was like orihime's, too: gentle, friendly, and quite emotional but...i thought it would make sense for tomiko to be kind of naive and have little knowledge on what it means to really be independent and strong for yourself, since she came from a family of celebrities. sooo she was pampered her whole life and, well, throwing her into doubt would be throwing her into a situation where she would have to fend for herself! so i was kind of interested to see how that was gonna happen
tomiko was actually supposed to be more like kirigiri the further the game progressed, and was supposed to emerge as a stronger person. but that was really the first time she'd gotten to experience such intense emotions...so she kind of became this weird emotional wreck towards the end and her development actually went backwards from what i'd planned. and, well. that's kind of what lead to her demise aha
