I’m rewatching all Marvel movies chronologically, and goddamn, I always cry when Peter dies. He was just a fucking kid and he was scared to die despite risking his life so often😭 Ik he comes back but it’s one of the saddest MCU deaths (saddest legit death for me would be Loki tho).
The next movie is the Punisher from 1989. This movie stars Dolph Lundgren. This movies wasn't horrible, but it wasn't really the Punisher I know. There are some elements that remind me of the Punisher I am familiar with. The movie is a little weird at points. I for sure thought the naked time in the sewer was ridiculous. All in all I would give this movie a 4 out of 10.
The next movie in the complete Marvel movie watch through is Howard the Duck made in 1986. To me this was a weird choice as far as Marvel properties goes. The concept is different, but it is hard to execute well. The actors in the movie are great. I love Lea Thompson, but this movie is not great. I can only think of Grafunkle and Oates while watching it. I would give it a 5 out of 10, mainly because of the music and the actors.
i am on a Marvel Cinematic Universe Journey. meaning i am attempting to watch everything in the marvel universe in chronological order, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger.
i got my list from here and for my own entertainment i’m gonna write about it. hopefully i stick to it....
Post 1: Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter Seasons 1&2, and Agent Carter One Shot
mainly i think what i’m trying to do is watch everything and find where they reference other Marvel entities or happenings and how each movie can relate to each other and any easter eggs with some of my own little opinions thrown in.
first things first, we all know Steve was never treated like an actual human being pretty much ever. only by Bucky and Peggy and Dr. Erskine.
pre-serum he was treated like a nobody. a too skinny, too fragile nobody that couldn't possibly be good for anything.
post-serum he was treated as the ‘face of the war’ he was an actor, a circus monkey. even when he was in the war, he was still in the spotlight, still the front man.
our first meeting of Zola foreshadows him in CATWS which i thought was clever (and shows how far in advanced Marvel thinks like geez)
when Bucky asked Steve if ‘it was permanent’ meaning his transformation, that took on a double meaning for me. Bucky HAD to have already been experimented on by Zola by this point (his rescue). maybe he overheard them talking about what they were doing to him or maybe Zola was the kind that talked his victims through what he was doing, so Bucky knew (or at least guessed cuz he aint dumb) he had been experimented on and was worried something had been done to him that was irreversible and that is heartbreaking. (which also leads you to wonder what kind (if any) “super powers” Bucky already possessed during the war and how they were used cuz we don’t see a whoooole lot of war time and it’s mostly Cap)
when Howard was showing Steve the prototype shields, the very first one looked like Iron-Man’s face which i thought was funny
the last of my notes for CATFA (and yes i took notes.) was about Schmidt touching the Tesseract in the Plane. now that we know it’s the Space Stone and opens like wormholes through space, the whole “Soul Stone Keeper” thing makes more sense. of course he didn’t die. that’s not what the Space Stone does. i think it showed him the whole future right then and took him to fulfill his part in it.
next is technically the Agent Carter One Shot because it was released with the Iron Man 3 DVD in 2013. technically the tv show did pretty well with rewriting what the One Shot did, but it was still enjoyable to watch. all it really shows is how bad ass Peggy is (we know) how under appreciated she was after the war (we know) and showed her accepting the offer the be a founder/run S.H.I.E.L.D. (which technically didn’t have the abbreviated name until Iron Man correct??? i mean Phil keeps saying the whole name)
ANYWAY on to Agent Carter which is where this will get long my friends still with me. also, apparently, i never finished Agent Carter and the ones i did watch i watched like 3 years ago, so there were some things i had never seen before and was like O.O
ALWAYS have to mention the AMAZING opening sequence of all the men in dark gray/brown suits walking AWAY from the camera and Peggy in bright colors walking TOWARD the camera. like. poetic cinema right there. climax of television openings.
anyway. the first season is all about clearing Howard’s name from selling unknowingly to enemies. his terribly dangerous inventions are stolen to be sold on the black market and they need to be recovered. somewhere in the season someone (probs Peggy) was like “why did you create these things in the first place” and Howard’s reply was “i can’t help what i think” and for a person like him, i think it’s a real excuse. when you have the ability, the skills, the know how, the money, the resources to bring to life your ideas, wouldn’t you?
anyway, the inventions had to be recovered from the enemy and in Howard’s case, he has to have someone do it for him, Tony does it himself showing the difference in their characters which i think is kind of wonderful as Tony Stark is my ride or die. having Howard have to run and hide (i mean he does help but he also almost kills a bunch of people but anyway) and having Tony find and destroy his weapons really speaks volumes of Tony’s character
we also see Vanko (the father of the bad guy from IM2) which made me freak out a little
(back to Howard’s character) then we learn how Howard saved Anna and Jarvis and everything and i mean while we can all agree Howard was a little shit, he gave his love for people and desire to protect them straight to his son. like Howard loved Steve and he loved Jarvis and Anna and he loved Peggy and respected all of them and wanted them to be safe. he could be a bit a lot annoying about it, but as Peggy said over and over, Howard really was a good man, he just was cocky about it.
episode 5 was real good. it was the one with the Howling Commandos. we see the distinction between the men who were in the war with Peggy, who know how strong she is, who know how smart she is, who respect her not because Steve did, but because she’s worth respecting and the ones who she her only as a woman, a liability, someone who could freeze at any moment. it’s amazingly sad and infuriating.
we also see the difference int he European and Pacific theaters of the war. now i am by no means a WW2 expert, but of things I've seen and read and heard, the two fronts were VASTLY different. we se the Howling Commandos talking about war stories and cutting up and laughing and then there’s Jack, the Pacific soldier. it takes a lot to get him to tell his stories. now, we later learn the real story, but that’s the way it is with actual WW2 Vets. those who served in the Pacific don’t usually tell they're stories as freely as those who served in Europe. just the way the Japanese fought was so different than what the Americans were used to. the Japanese did not care about themselves. they did not have the same self-preservation instincts as the Americans which made them more dangerous and unpredictable (i can go on and on but i digress)
we ALSO see in this episode just how much women were overlooked. as we know, Dottie was a trained Russian spy. they trained women, because they could slip into countries and governments so much easier because they were underestimated and overlooked.
finally, the end of season 1 with Zola and the brainwash guy with him in the SSR prison??????? I FLIPPED OK!!! apparently this was a part i didn't remember and the CATWS foreshadowing here was just painful. rude.
season two was all about Zero Matter and i think this is like corresponding with the Obelisk in AOS that ate Simmons or could be kinda like the quantum realm from Ant Man and then all those theories about the spirit realm in Infinity War and all that jazz.
but first i gotta mention the line “a movie based on a comic? sounds dreadful.” like amazing. spot on Peg. bravo.
we also get more parallels between Howard and Tony such as the staying up all night to solve a problem, “i need COFFEE”, and helping a friend. plus also, we first hear Jarvis as a disembodied voice when he creates the alarm system and its just beautiful “i don’t want to spend my whole life as a disembodied voice” lol Jarvis.
also, we already have parasites and moles and bad people with evil agendas working their way into government associations (surprise surprise) and something i just thought of, they killed a lot of the higher ups in this organization so does that mean it was easier for Zola and Hydra to grow?
also, pause to mention the episode where they take Rose and she is KICKING ASS MAN! AMAZING WORK. while we’re paused, i will also state that Jarvis and Anna are #couplegoals because they just are. she isn’t jealous of Peggy because she knows Jarvis loves only her. she is concerned about his well-being on these adventures, but doesn’t pull the ‘be here safe with me’ card because she supports him and knows he will be ok. and Jarvis, man he loves his wife. if she had pulled the ‘stay because i’m scared’ card, he so would have and he would not begrudge her, but he knew that she was supporting him and just ugh they’re just amazing.
mainly what’s left to mention is the INCREDIBLE moment when Thompson and Sousa say “DO AS PEGGY SAYS” simultaneously in episode 8. like that was beautiful. you're damn right do as Peggy says. (harkening back to when she said it herself as what Cap would say in 1X05 with the Howling Commandos)
second to lastly. Samberly man. so dumb. 2X10 on when he saw Whitney Frost as she was being drawn to the rift they opened: “I didn’t faint! ...I....did faint...” i laughed so hard.
and finally.
WHAT THE FUCK??? HOW DO THEY END SEASON 2 WITH THAT AND NOT RENEW IT FOR ANOTHER SEASON????????? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?????
i mean i have so many questions. first off WHY????? i mean Thompson was a jerk but WHYYYYYYY KILL HIM. second off WHOO WAS THAT? third off what’s the real story behind that file? fourth off what was the big project howard came across in peru? fifth off WHAT WAS THE TIE PIN KEY TO????? sixth off WHERE IS DOTTIE????? she was never recovered. i mean there was just too much left open to not renew man. it was a pretty decent show
i mean there is SSSOOOOOOOOOO much more they could have done. the start of S.H.I.E.L.D. for starters. i mean that’s important shit in the Marvel Universe. how could you NOT at least do one more season with the start of S.H.I.E.L.D???? jeez. and Peggy and Sousa? loved it, but really??? only in the last episode??? was he the one she marries? the one who Cap saved when he saved everyone else? (i guess i’ll figure it out when i rewatch CATWS and there’s that clip of her talking about her husband)
anyway that’s about all i got. stay tuned if you want.
