To the mommies who raise chaos, outcasts, and perfectly dressed nightmares 💞
In the wreckage after the war, after Tony saves everyone from the Blip and sacrifices himself in the process, Peter goes home.
He refuses to let anyone—Pepper, Happy, Dr. Strange (Peter still thinks that’s a made-up name)—to take him. No, Spider-Man swings into the rubble of what is left of Queens, New York close to midnight.
He comes back to find no crime at all. No, instead people are setting up stalls with what they have and sharing resources, making food and handing it out to the homeless or disabled, volunteer groups made of stronger regular-citizens and the first responders teams of Queens have banded together to save citizens from collapsing buildings, mothers and fathers holding onto lost children until someone the child recognizes finds them, other parents are looking so desperately for their children, calling out their names ceaselessly in the chaos.
The city of Queens, New York has come alive in the total abandonment of all heroes: citizens, petty criminals, vigilantes, and minor villains all banding together to make sure the common public survives.
So when Spider-Man comes to town, assisting with the volunteer groups, helping now open-source stores and their employees hand out food and water and first aid supplies, helping parents find their children, the city thinks it’s a miracle. Not only is their favorite Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man back, but he’s alive after five years of radio silence following the blip, and he’s helping the citizens, just like he used to before Iron Man found him.
Citizens all over town rejoice. Fueled by their own hope for the future and determined to make it to the future, volunteering and resource efforts skyrocket, all “sponsored by” and assisted by Spider-Man himself.
Peter takes the time to look for the people he knows in the crowd. He makes sure Ned finds his Lola and his other family. He makes sure his lesser-known classmate, MJ, has enough supplies to last her for a while, when she insists she doesn’t have any parents to look for, or that she seems to want to look for.
Eventually, Peter stops by a stall hosted by F.E.A.S.T., and sees a very-exhausted May Parker handing out food. May doesn’t say anything when she sees him, but she gives him a knowing, relieved smile and hands him a loaf of bread for him to eat while he swings.
A little while later, after everyone is settled in for the night, Peter Parker comes back and goes back home with May. Neither one of them talk about what they saw in words, but they both sleep on the couch that night, watching old Star Wars movies.
When Bruce had found the man; he found him as Bruce Wayne, not as Batman.
He had been walking with Jason after they had lunch at a nice coffee shop (one of the few nice things in Gotham City) and was grinning as his son told him something ridiculous he saw Roy done.
He was happy that his son found love, even if it was Roy Harper, and was even more thrilled when Jason gave jim a chance to be the father he should have been to him. Their relationship had been better since they’d started trying again and Bruce felt like he was on cloud nine.
His son was back, happy, and in love. He had his family happy and back together, their night life and day life wasn’t interfering at all, and things had been going good for a while now.
So of course it decided to all take a nose dive, because why wouldn’t it?
They were walking past an alleyway when a man suddenly limped out of it, collapsing on his knees in the middle of the sidewalk.
Jason and Bruce had immediately crouched down, grabbing the man’s arms and truying to help him back up.
“Are you alright, sir?” Jason asked politely, and Bruce inwardly beamed at his son.
Not the time or place, but he was in a good mood, so oh well.
The man was wearing a dark red t-shirt—some spots darker as they were stained with blood. His one arm had severe burn wounds and so did the side of his face that the arm was also on. The man glanced up, black hair ratty and caked with dirt and a beard that somehow was perfectly trimmed despite the rest of his appearance. Brown eyes met Bruce’s blue ones.
“No hospital,” He rasped, “Please, I—”
“We won’t take you to a hospital if you don’t want to,” Jason interrupted.
All the bats had met their fair share of people who refused medical service, or refused to go to the hospital and instead had whichever one of them was present bandage them up and then they’d go home.
“Good,” The man was still staring at Burce, “Don’t freak out,”
Bruce blinked, “I won’t freak out…?”
“Good,” The man sighed, “‘Cause I’m about to go into cardiac arrest,”
“You’re—what?!”
Sure enough, the man went limp and began to struggle to breathe.
“Oh my god,” Jason began to do CPR, “Bruce! Call an ambulance or something!”
“No hospital!” The man managed to speak somehow.
“You can’t breathe, you don’t get a say in this!”
Just as Bruce had typed a nine and a one, the man began to breathe again, a circular blue-ish glow emitting from beneath his shirt.
The man took a gasp of air, “H-Hate when that happens…”
The two vigilantes just stared at him.
The man then looked back at Bruce, “Tony Stark, nice to meet you; I’m pretty sure I was just killed by a big purple alien,”
Brucie Wayne didn’t swear, Batman didn’t swear, but Bruce Wayne did.
“What,” He whispered, “The fuck,”
Tony just shrugged, “It happens,”
