... in which you catch semiu sneaking out to cause trouble.. after she promised she'd stop.
It was about 3 a.m., and you felt her warmth leave the bed an hour ago. You hoped she would come back, that maybe she had gone to use the bathroom or make something to eat, but you knew the truth. You knew her, the time that read on your phone when you heard the balcony door open, how many soft steps she took before she began to unzip her jumpsuit. The routine is permanently engraved in your brain. Sighing, you rose from the bed and threw on your long white robe; you knew there was no more prolonging the conversation. The sound of your feet pattering against the cold, hard wood floors echoed throughout your living room.
Lighting a vanilla incense, the soft scent fills your nose as you exhale. Glancing at the time, you knew she would be on her way back by now. Chuckling, you decided to conduct a downpour to accompany her on her way home. Pouring yourself a glass of wine, you lifted yourself onto the counter, crossing your legs, awaiting her arrival.
Your ears perked up at the sound of wet leather rubbing against itself. Glancing at the balcony, you see her shadow sneaking its way in. Trying to sneak into your bedroom, clearing your throat before she could twist the knob open. Her eyes widened with shock, and your eyes raked over her wet appearance. Her soft, curly blond hair and water-soaked face lightly glowed under the dim living room lights.
Your lips curled into a smirk. “Have fun?” Semiu paused, and the air in the room shifted. You could nearly see the gears turning in her head, searching for a way out of this. Sighing in defeat, she makes her way towards you. “Fuck, wait, pretty, I can explain.” Ignoring the way your stomach turns at the nickname. Brushing off her pleas, you hopped off the counter. She followed you like a lost puppy as you strolled through the living room. You hummed lowly as a signal to start her explanation. Bending down to grab sage and a lighter.
Semiu ran her hands through her blond curls and exhaled. “I just got the itch, you know? I tried to fight it, but I couldn’t help myself.” Her words trailed on, and the room began to become foggy as it filled with smoke. You felt eyes following you as you wafted the sage around slowly. Semiu lowly groaned, “So you’re just going to ignore me? I get I fucked up, but don’t ignore me.” She snaked her arm around your waist, turning you around, making eye contact for the first time that morning. Eyes widening as she looks into your tear-filled ones, lip slightly poking out as your face scrunches up. You took a step towards her, poking her chest with your nails.
“You’re right, YOU fucked up and YOU lied! “You think I didn’t notice? Sneaking out late at night, the sound of your feet against the floor as you tried to sneak around the house.” You took a step forward, and you were close enough to her face to feel her breath picking up. “I’ve never once asked you to be perfect, but I’ve always asked you to be honest.” Semiu tried to reason, “I wanted to tell you, I promise I did, baby.”
“But you didn't, you lied to my face, MULTIPLE times.” Walking over to the couch, you sighed and sat down, covering your face with your hands. Voice cracking, “I just don’t understand, you promised you’d stop, we were doing good.”
Semiu’s eyes softened, and she could feel her chest clenching. “Pretty girl, I’m sorry, I-” You cut her off, “I know you are.” Looking up into her yellow eyes, you deeply exhaled, “If I asked you to stop and drop that lifestyle forever, would you? And not for me but for you.” Her eyebrows rose in surprise, taken aback by the question.
You could see the flicker of hesitation in her eyes, body tensing once she realized the weight of your question. She tried to speak but clamped her mouth shut. Your eyes were lightly filled with tears. “I knew it.” Shaking your head, you rose from the couch. Semiu felt her heart ache with hurt at the sight of you leaving, taking in your beauty as if it was for the last time. The golden dusk from the sunrise glowed through the windows and landed on your skin. Your raspy voice barely above a whisper, as if it hurt to speak, “You should go.” Walking away, making not a single sound but the closing of your bedroom door. Semiu was frozen in place in the living room, her mind replaying the conversation. It couldn’t be over, right?
Right?
It had been about three weeks since you and Semiu had seen each other.. In person, of course. Unbeknownst to you, she’d seen your appearance on the news on the city square jumbotron. The news recapped the fight between the X-Men and Magneto. Though she didn’t need the summary because, during the fight, she sat on top of a building watching the battle from a higher angle. In those three weeks apart, she really has been trying to do better, when she wasn’t stalking you, making sure you were okay. She occupied her time during the night with a part-time job downtown at a bar. The bar settled on the end of the block, signaling the change to the next block over.
Surprisingly, Semiu found herself enjoying her job, talking to intoxicated people about their lives, which she found to be therapeutic. Maybe in another life, she was meant to be a therapist, but living in another life where you weren’t guaranteed sounded like a nightmare.
You kept your distance from Semiu even though your head was screaming to mend things between you two. You busied yourself with work, spending more time at the X-Mansion than your penthouse. Going back just felt wrong. The atmosphere had become cold and quiet, not feeling like a home anymore.
So there you were, sitting on the burgundy armchair by the fireplace in the X-Mansion, while Logan (Wolverine) sat on the loveseat sofa nearby. The atmosphere felt the opposite of you, content. You explained the situation to Logan as he listened. You exhaled, “Maybe I was too harsh?” His tongue clicked while he reclined into his seat. “Nah, you stood your ground. She was wrong for sneaking around and lying.”
“But-”
He cut in
“No buts, she was wrong. If she loves you enough, then she’ll come around and fix it herself.” Lifting himself from the couch, he walked towards you, gently placing his hand on your head, ruffling your curls lightly. His gruff voice began to speak in a soft tone. “It’s not your job to fix every problem; let her prove it to you.” Turning around, he started to make his exit and called out, “And if she sends ya any of those fancy chocolates, bring me a bite, yeah?”. You softly chuckled, “Yeah, I got you. Night.”
Deeply exhaling, the weight on your shoulders slightly felt lifted. You decided to head back to your apartment for the first time in weeks.
Opening your door, breathing in the faint scent of vanilla, you walked a couple of steps before abruptly stopping. Your eyebrows brunched together in confusion, looking over the perfectly arranged bouquet with white peonies and blue hydrangeas sitting on top of your counter. Sitting next to it, there was a small Dior bag, followed by a fancy chocolate assortment, whose name was too hard to pronounce. You made a mental reminder to save Logan some. A small smile made its way onto your face, quickly dropping as you felt a presence behind you. Had you not smelled her jasmine perfume, you would’ve immediately attacked without hesitation.
An arm slid around your waist from behind, feeling a body press against yours. Just slightly melting at the soft kisses, she pressed against your shoulder. Whispering, “I'm sorry, so sorry.” “I want to do better, I want to be with you in every lifetime.” You could feel your heart start to race, spinning around to look in her eyes. Words laced with more confidence as she looked into your eyes, Semiu cleared her throat. “I love you.” Softening from her words, you leaned into her touch, and you softly uttered
“I love you.”
You two laid on the couch while a show played quietly in the background. Snuggled up, basking in each other's presence. No words were said, but each time your bodies grazed against each other, it felt like an unsaid ‘I love you.’
“Did Logan tell you to get those chocolates?”
Semiu laughed, “Girl, I don’t speak to him without you there, you know cats and dogs don’t work together.” Snickering with a small smile, “Yeah, guess not.”
Semiu looked into your other eyes, searching for any regret but not succeeding. She leaned in and kissed you slowly, delicately, like you could slip through her fingers at any moment. Her hands began to tangle themselves in your snow colored curls, eyes fluttering shut as you began to lose yourself in the kiss. Semiu pulled away, and you suddenly squealed, feeling her lift you and carry you towards your bedroom.
