Poor sap. He’s got no idea what he’s gotten himself into with the elementals. I feel kinda bad for the kid, bad enough that I returned the rings I borrowed. That’s a one time deal though, honest.
Clownboss (Perrin)
Some things are just too good to be true. A relaxed, confident boss who doesn’t stink of ambition and greed. A guy who’s equal-opportunity enough to hook up with a void-possessed partner. Sure, the corruption is still there but he keeps it low key. I’m good with that. I’d better enjoy it while it lasts, cause someone like that just isn’t gonna survive bureaucracy. Wonder what he’s gonna do when he gets fired…

Who in the HELLS security tags their teacups?! I WAS GONNA RETURN IT EVENTUALLY d’you know how much it hurt trying to pull it off?!
Michaux: I hope Marvik is staying out of trouble. And away from Amdapor. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen him. Think of how much trouble he and Atlan might have gotten into in that time...
💭 Perrin and Marv both, because I wont make it easy.
Lux, about Perrin: "...Of course I won’t vouch for the character of a man who wants everyone in my immediate vicinity to know within minutes of meeting them that he’s my superior. Doesn’t that speak for itself?”
Taji, about Marvik: "Aw, I always like talking with Marv. He’s got a way of making you feel like your problems are a million malms away. Probably because he’s so easy to throw across the lawn, in the exact way my problems are not! This little art venture of ours is gonna be fun, though.”
Yen symbol and I let you decide whom its gonna be a hoot anyway

“He has the same problem as Lyrin’a, in that you just know that they’re Gridanians that spend too much time in the woods. In fact, I think it might be worse in Marvik’s case, since he prefers colors. He’s not bad looking, granted, but… not for me.”
“Marvik has proven himself to be a friend, so I shall not speak too badly of him... as fun as it may be. He’s clever and eager to help--sometimes a bit too eager, perhaps. And there’s a bravery there, even if it’s not always obvious.”
“There is absolutely no attraction there. He is not my type, and I believe he is spoken for, in any case.”
Would they date them: yes | no
“Marvik is a friend. No more, no less.”
Favorite thing about them: “He is so much fun to poke fun at. He gives you these dirty looks whenever you bring up his horns or how he’s technically a near religious figure in Gridania.”
Least favorite thing about them: “He stabbed me with a lance once. And no, that is not one of your bloody euphemisms; I mean an actual, physical lance. I’m fairly sure I have a scar from it now…”
“Marvik is a good sort. For the most part. When he is not trying to stab me with a lance.” He pauses for a moment, pursing his lips as he does so, then adds grumpily: “And I mean that in the literal sense, not as some twisted innuendo...”
He sighs. “He has been nothing but a good friend, eager enough to help with my... troubles. He cares about people, which is a trait that I can respect. And he can be surprisingly stubborn at times, though you wouldn’t think it from just looking at him.”
Marvik: "I think you're lying a little to me. This problem of yours... you're trying to keep calm and hide it, but you're in over your head, aren't you? I almost feel bad for you... I know what it feels like to be in your position. But pity wouldn't help you, would it..."
Perrin: "So what did you do? What did you do to get in so deep? You seem like the deal type... So what did you trade for? Because clearly it wasn't worth it. You might be in an even worse position than me; I can at least run and hide again if I must."
His dreams had become odd, ever since the trip into Amdapor.
Granted, odd was an improvement. Odd might be unsettling, but it was unlikely to leave him waking up screaming in the middle of the night, and that could be counted as a victory in it’s own right.
That didn’t mean they didn’t get under his skin a little though.
He found himself wandering halls of ivory white that seemed to stretch endlessly, no matter which direction he chose. There were no shadows in the place, none at all; from the vaulted ceilings light streamed down, and from the windows along the corridors more light shown in. For there was no sky outside; where the sun or stars might have shined was nothing but a brilliance that seemed to glow brighter and brighter the higher in the tower he climbed.
He had company, sometimes. Occasionally he would glimpse one of the stone guardians of the tower, some lumbering golem carrying out it’s inscrutable purpose, or would hear the telltale click click of a sphinx’s claws tapping on the marble floor as the sly creature managed to just evade his view. Other times Marvik would join him, though more often than not it was not the Marvik that he knew but the one that he had caught a glimpse of, here transformed into it’s full winged glory. But typically he would be alone.
Not that it mattered much, in the end.
Regardless of the details, he would always find himself being drawn higher and higher upwards, being drawn deeper into the heart of the Light. And as he grow closer he felt the darkness inside him start to recoil, the whispers that always lurked at the back of his mind grow quieter. The brilliance brought clarity, and that alone might have been enough to cause him to weep at the sheer relief from the burden that he had been carrying long enough that it had almost become second nature, a dull ache that he could tune out but was nevertheless still always there.
And yet he did not weep, for this was not a mercy of the Light. It burned where it touched him, an ache that grew with each passing minute. For the Light would have him rendered bare, would have the darkness that infected him turned to ash. It would see him cleansed, and it would be indifferent to the fact that that darkness was located in the very core of his being now. To burn it out would be to burn him too, and leave nothing behind in it’s wake. He would be consumed.
He knew this was to be his fate at the top of the tower, and it terrified him down to the very essence of his being. And yet... he was drawn to it too. Like a moth drawn to flame, he couldn’t resist it’s radiance.
1. Idristan made the mistake of buying Marvik lunch once. And has since vowed to Halone to Never Do It Again after Marv went through like, a week's pay. He will also tease Marvik mercilessly about it too.
2. Idristan and Marvik keep running into little weird things whenever they work together because Ishgardian conjury and Gridanian aren't quite the same thing. Leads to some "wtf are you doing man" / "no, wtf are you doing" moments.
