I think doll tumblr will appreciate Mary-san, both the original urban legend and the cute comedy manga about it (these are just a few of my favorite early strips):

some haunted dolls
A vengeful doll, she communicates through her phone, letting her victim know her location. She approaches slowly, letting the truth of her steady approach slowly dawn upon them as she closes in.
Mary-san is on her way now...

Halloween Countdown - Week 3 - Urban Legends - Day 17 - Teke Teke & Mary-San [Don’t Let Them Catch You, Don’t Turn Around]
Teke Teke: “the ghost of a young woman, or school girl, who fell on a rail way line and was cut in half by the oncoming train. Now a vengeful spirit, she travels on either her hand or elbows, her dragging upper torso making a scratching or ‘teke teke’ sound. If she encounters anyone at night and the victim is not fast enough, she will slice them in half at the torso, mimicking her own disfigurement. In some versions, she does this to make more Teke Teke’s.“ Mary-San: “When you throw out your old doll and it comes at you with a vengeance. You will receive and series of phone calls from the doll, stating each time that she is getting closer and closer to where you are. Once she says that she is behind you, to look back will make her kill you.”
I started taking my Japanese class this summer and the book we have is great, it’s got a central cast of characters in it. There’s Mary-san, the main character who is an exchange student from America, the dialogues follow here and her adventures studying as “Sakura University.” Takeshi-san is a student at the university and becomes fast friends with Mary-san, he being in many of the dialogues as well. The story arc of the textbook following their budding love story. There are a couple others, but the next most notable Robert-san, an exchange student from England. He’s basically the butt-monkey of the group, he’s not a very good student and he’s totally crushing on Mary-san, but the voice actor they got for the CDs has the best “I’m trying my hardest but it’s just not good enough for this world” kind of voice.
(P.S. I’m still not exactly sure what I’m going to be putting up on this blog, probably just funny anecdotes from class, at least for right now)
