This reproduction of Mary Cassatt’s 1908 painting 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒘𝒐 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒏 has graced the walls of two television shows. It was first spotted in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒈, which ran from 1999 to 2006, as well as in 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔, which ran from 2000 to 2007. Mary Cassatt 1844-1926 “Lydia Crocheting in the Garden at Marly” 1880 Oil on canvas Photo is taken by: @robertpuffjr Cassatt and her family spent the summer of 1880 at Marly-le-Roi, about ten miles west of Paris. Ignoring the village's historic landmarks in her art, Cassatt focused instead on the domestic environment. Here, she portrayed her elder sister, Lydia, fashionably dressed and insulated by a walled garden from any modern hurly-burly. Lydia is absorbed in the sort of old-fashioned handicraft that was increasingly prized by the well-to-do as factory manufacture by working-class women escalated. Although Casgatt was generally uninterested in plein-air painting, she captured the effects of dazzling sunlight beautifully in this work, especially in Lydia' large white hat. Mary Cassat

Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) était une peintre impressionniste américaine qui vécut la majeure partie de sa vie en France. Elle se concentra à capturer des femmes dans leurs tâches quotidiennes dans des huiles, des pastels et des gravures, et produisit de nombreuses représentations innovantes de mères et d'enfants. Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) “Young Mother Sewing” 1900 Oil on canvas Photo is taken by: @robertpuffjr Around 1890, Mary Cassatt embraced what would become her defining subjects- women and children- revealing her affection for her nieces and nephews as well as the prevailing cultural interest in childrearing. For this painting, she enlisted two unrelated models to enact the roles of mother and child. Cassatt's great friend and patron, Louisine Havemeyer, who purchased the work in 1901, remarked on its truthfulness: “Look at that little child that has just thrown herself against her mother's knee, regardless of the result and oblivious to the fact that she could disturb her mamma.” And she is quite right, she does not disturb her mother.
