You know how tales are kinda my thing and there was a fairy tale in today's ep? I attempted to redraw the background from this frame, it got a little out of hands.

In short: The castle structure reminded me of a Hungarian cartoon called Tales of king Matthias (Mátyás király meséi). The king (right in the 3rd pic) there is portrayed as: clever, just and overall beloved. And at the end of every episode he turns, so we can see his profile, and a relief portraying the real king Matthias from the 15th century appears in his stead.

As I couldn't get it out of my head, I embraced it and put Gabriel in Matthias' position. Ofc Gabriel is really not known for being just and decent, but the real king wasn't like that either.

This old childhood memory is also why Gabriel's nose is drawn bigger than I usually would.

Marinette was trying to figure out what Mayura's civilian form looked like and ended up with this sketch. Not really Mayura, not really Nathalie, someone in between. The watermarks are also inspired by her signatures: the one on the hat she designed (tumblr) and her regular one (instagram) - which you can see in the Bubbler episode for example.
