Catchup numero dos!
This entry mixes Kosheen’s “Hide U” and Parov Stelar’s “Chambermaid Swing”…which honestly aren’t songs I recognize on their own. This mashup is straight up Hide U’s lyrics with Chambermaid Swing’s background, and I really like the choice. Chambermaid Swing give a great uneven grouping of 8/8 (123, 123, 12) which propels the song forward and keeps me interested despite a lack of variety in the vocal range. The lyrics revolve around Kosheen’s promise not to hurt someone—how alluring after a breakup. Specifically, the line “If you were in my heart/I’d surely not break you” is what caught my attention on my listen through and keeps me coming back for more, not the least because the lines match so perfectly with Chambermaid Swing’s background.
Try to not be TOO sad when the background pulses end; I’m always a little put out once they’re gone.
Wow I am just all kinds of behind on this project, so I'll keep it short and sweet for my first catchup (ketchup?) day! I've recently discovered...that I love Taylor Swift. Certainly not enough to compete with people who've been listening to her for a while, but her album Red totally has me hooked. One of her most well known songs "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" seems perfect for a breakup anthem to sing as loudly as you can while driving with the windows down. So here it is mashed up with some dude (I can't tell if he was covering it or...what) but it's a few Taylor songs and his voice in there as well. The voices pick up where the other leaves off, and it creates a really neat effect! My favorite spoken line thought (that I definitely wish I had the chutzpah to say to someone) is "...shut your mouth when your talking to me." Enjoy, and try not to think about that very specific person you totally would never, ever get back together with. EDIT: GRAMMAR MUCH?
So today's REAL post, which is the second day of breakupweek, comes from a different angle. It's a moderately paced, electronica-heavy song that really resonated with me. First hearing this, I definitely, definitely put myself in the position of being sang TO. The first line, "I dunno, my temper's being kinda crazy. (I need somebody! I need someone!) I know your love is real, I just feel so suffocated--(I feel so lonely, I feel so numb)" was more of a slap in the face than anything, but I really, really like this in the context of this week's mashups. I've been in similar situations as described by the singer, and it certainly wasn't easy. As terrible as a breakup is, in most situations, its a terrible thing for everyone involved: something important to remember as an event like this is processed.
Keep in mind as you listen to the jam (lots of relevant/awesome lines!), with a couple of bonus British-voiced overlays that made me laugh out loud each time they came up. Definitely possible it's part of the original song, but one of the reasons I love mashups so much is that I'm usually so far behind the pop curve anyway that nearly everything is new! And fresh! and I don't know who's singing it from when.
Take a listen, try not to get THAT mad at the dude singing. He's already mad enough at himself.
On this glorious Friday of the first Buffalo snow of the season (that I've seen, at any rate, which is what counts, right?) I present you a cool, chill, weather-related mashup, Since I'm Walking On Sunshine.
It's exclusively the vocals of Walkin' on Sunshine, set to a much slower tempo than I've been posting this past week. Fading gracefully in and out, it's a perfect background song that'll make you happy whenever your mind fancies pulling out the hook from the flow.
Have fun meandering through this one!
Happy hump day! I think it's time to get back to basics...with RUDIMENTAL ABC.
Starting with some great pipe organ, the song morphs into ABC as if Michael Jackson was the only member of the Jackson 5, which let's be real, he might as well have been for what careers happened afterward. The horn interlude in the middle is pretty great, and the entire song just...fits.
Take a listen and try not to sing along--you'll get tripped up with the lyric swaps!
